The Senior Category Manager is a key hands-on leadership role and is responsible for providing sourcing support and supplier management for projects by engaging early and systematically tapping into our external supply base for their innovation capability to achieve higher Quality and Gross Margins and delivering robust products from a concentrated and committed supply base and delivering greater value to the business. The Senior Category Manager is responsible for directly managing the supply base within a category and collaborating with other Category Managers, Supplier Quality Managers and Advanced Sourcing Managers to develop, maintain and execute Category and Sourcing Strategy to support global and local projects, focusing on Product Quality, Cost, Reliability, Flexibility, Risk and Project Schedule. In addition to providing a management oversight, the Senior Category Manager will be an extended member of the cross functional project teams throughout all stages of the project, working closely Advanced Sourcing and project stakeholders and supporting the identification, selection, evaluation and qualification of suppliers of components and finished products and selected services for all assigned projects. This is a key strategic role to Manage category suppliers for Internal and External Finish Products and materials Team’s activities. This role will also select and develop new Component and OEM and Contract Manufacturing suppliers and negotiate Supply Agreements with Legal as required. Perform full annual business reviews with key suppliers. The Senior Category Manager is required to manage the supplier relationship and supplier development in support of strategic partnerships. The Senior Category Manager will be accountable for managing material process for Components, OEM and Contract Manufactured products in accordance with Quality and Oracle system procedures including:
Develop and ensure delivery of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the assigned Category within Global Procurement.
Manage the product flow of components and External products to the Days on Hand plan to avoid backorders and overstock. Plan a strategy and execute accordingly to drive year over year reductions in both backorders and overstock.
May lead a functional group of the Category Management team. Providing both informal and formal coaching and development (mid-year and end of year performance reviews) to direct staff.
Develop and maintain a short-, medium- and long-term category strategy around supplier management and development of all major sub-categories to help ensure high quality, cost effective parts/products are supplied to new product development teams and manufacturing facilities.
Work with internal customers, develop a supplier segmentation model for each assigned category, including identification of Strategic, Preferred and Approved suppliers.
Ensure competitive pricing on all sourced components and products through extensive market analysis and benchmarking. Have a precise awareness of cost drivers for assigned categories. Monitor market trends and optimize overall purchasing costs by following a total cost of ownership approach.
Identify and monitor areas of supplier risks (including gaps). Develop and implement mitigation and remediation strategies in coordination with the internal stakeholders.
Provide systems knowledge and expertise to assure development of the most cost effective and reliable product control. Responsible for financial analysis reporting to Marketing and Suppliers to ensure adherence to Supply Agreements.
Review forecast and discuss adjust with product managers & suppliers.
Support Advanced Sourcing on EPDS Finished Products Management and Component/Materials decisions on new OEM and Contract Manufactured product launches, negotiate and develop new supply agreements as required.
Along with Quality, manage and maintain Component and External Finished products Supplier files in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Attend Quality audits present and review business KPI s with key suppliers.
Develop strong partnerships with Finance to develop and set new cost standards for all External Manufactured products annually.
All Other Essential Duties as assigned.
Minimum of 10 years Materials Management and Sourcing experience in medical device or related field.
Minimum of 5 years in strategic purchasing development.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as manager in medical device or other regulated industry.
Certified Purchasing Management (C.P.M) and or APICS Certification desired.
Working knowledge of Oracle materials purchasing practices.
Strong analytical skills and reporting of key metrics are essential.
Strong internal external communications skills, both verbally and written.
Well-developed leadership skills in decision making and problem solving.
Advanced skill level in Excel.
