About the Position
Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) is seeking a Senior Landscape Architect/Urban Designer based in our Watertown, MA office. The successful candidate will join our growing Land Development and Planning and Design practice, working on business development and project execution while mentoring junior level staff on both public and private projects. The position offers and opportunity for involvement in some of the most complex and highest visibility design and development projects in Massachusetts and throughout the New England region.

Project types include both public and private sector clients primarily in the New England area. Our office is within minutes of downtown Boston and less than an hour to Cape Cod, Providence, RI, and New Hampshire offering outstanding cultural and outdoor recreational opportunities for the interested professional.

Leading an integrated design process on a wide range of placemaking efforts in complex settings
Capability to lead both landscape architecture and urban design projects
Generating and presenting innovative and implementable design solutions
Building and managing excellent client relationships
Fostering a culture of design excellence
Interfacing with planning, landscape architecture, environmental, transportation and site/civil engineering teams
Ability to prepare and present at public meetings
Develop site design from master planning and site concept through construction document phases of design
Experience with master planning a wide range of projects from institutional campuses to residential and corporate communities
Oversee the development of graphics for design development presentations and public process materials, including sketch-up models, concept plans and diagrams, design studies, illustrative plans, cross sections and perspective sketches
Lead the production of construction documents: Develop layout and material, grading, and planting plans, technical details, and write technical specifications
Assist in preparing estimates of probable construction costs
Conduct construction site visits and plant tagging
Developing project scopes and work plans for effective and efficient delivery of design services
Skills and Attributes
Comprehensive understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planting
Proficiency in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Sketch up, Adobe Suite (PhotoShop, InDesign), Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), 3D Rendering Software, and Visualization Applications
Ability to effectively manage and mentor junior level staff to help foster professional growth
Proven capabilities to successfully manage projects from inception to completion
Experience with green initiative programs (LEED, SITES, etc.) and low impact development
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong graphic skills and ability to organize and present ideas graphically
Strong public speaking skills
Landscape Architecture or combined LA/Urban Design degree from an accredited program
Professional Landscape Architecture Registration - (MA, CT, and NH preferred)
Ten years of directly related professional landscape architecture and urban design experience
