About the Position

VHB’s in-house team of Creative Design Specialists (Graphic Designers) think critically and strategically to create clear, compelling visual communications. We work on a wide variety of projects that enhance our communities and the world around us. We geek out over typography, grids, infographics, visualizations, color, and paragraph styles while ensuring our brand’s consistency on every VHB project. We work closely and collaboratively with our marketing team to create top-notch proposals, presentations, advertisements, tradeshows, and digital communications. We also work closely with project managers and business leaders, demonstrating how design can add value to projects and help expand upon ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and develops graphic design projects through all phases of development and final production of materials, which may include proposals, presentations, internal design, and external visibility projects.

  • Works with marketing, communications, and design team to help prioritize projects and workload.

  • May present at and participate in kick-off meetings, check-ins, and final review meetings with technical staff with supervision from design or marketing staff.

  • Learns to apply messaging to pursuit work and communications.

  • Executes and collaborates on design assignments based on existing creative concepts, design briefs, and vision.

  • Learns, uses, and adheres to VHB’s marketing and client deliverable templates. Builds best practices with team.

  • Creates, organizes, and helps maintain content.

  • May support and coordinate graphic design and preparation efforts for client deliverables (e.g., printed reports, online documents, public outreach materials, project branding).

  • Provides support on conferences, webinars, and other regional industry events and experiences.

  • Assists with creating design solutions that may include multiple channels and products (e.g., digital communications, social media, email, print, animation, video, web design) to be created consistent with existing styles.

  • Learns and adheres to VHB’s Imagery Use policy.

  • Participates in team meetings and training with marketing, communication, and design peers.

  • Stays current on all relevant software.

  • May lead design sessions with coaching from marketing, communications, and design peers.

  • Participates in verifying that marketing deliverables and touchpoints comply with corporate branding standards, formats, and template styles.

  • Assists in materials and document production while implementing QA/QC standards.

  • Takes initiative to learn about VHB’s mission, markets, services, regional leadership, and organizational goals.

  • Completes all assignments in compliance with deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations while working collaboratively and communicating clearly.

  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.

  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Photography, video, animation, and social media experience and skills preferred.

  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.

  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.

  • Excellent creativity.

  • Involvement in industry affiliations preferred (e.g., AIGA).

  • Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.

Work Environment

  • Requires ability to work in a busy office environment with significant computer use.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of graphic design experience, preferably in the AEC industry

  • BFA in Graphic Design or related discipline

New employees will be onboarded virtually and begin their employment from home. We are in the process of planning for a safe return to the workplace in alignment with government and CDC guidelines.
