Thermo Fisher Scientific Sr. Director, Growth & Strategy - CMD in Waltham, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

The Sr. Director, Growth and Strategy is responsible for driving divisional growth and strategic thinking across 4 Business Units, R&D and functions within the Chromatography & Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD). This individual will report to the Division President and will partner closely with the Divisional leadership team to define organizational strategy, execute strategic deployment, manage KPI's, support STRAP coordination with Marketing, drive rationalization of priorities and lead key strategic imperatives for the Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recognized as a change agent who infuses holistic and creative business thinking and solutions into the Division

  • Create future strategic growth plans to exceed revenue and EBITA targets for the Division

  • Partner with CMD Leadership, Product Management, Operations, R&D, Commercial, Strategic Marketing and Finance to assess business needs, define strategy, and develop materials for STRAP

  • Identify, prioritize, and implement projects and operational savings to reduce annual spend and increase future growth

  • Analyze data to identify process complexity and/or improvements by recommending solutions that improve gross margin and satisfy customer requirements.

  • Support the M&A process, including analysis of possible candidates vs. strategic goals

  • Provides robust Project Management capability and resources to the Division by flexing across Business Units and Functions

  • Strengthen and manage global cross-functional business teams to ensure alignment on programs, manage issues and capture functional input relative to tactical and strategic planning to achieve growth objectives

  • Lead the Strategic Deployment process and related metrics reviews for the Division (monthly, weekly metrics)


  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline

  • 8+ years of relevant experience reflective of increasing scope and responsibility in related Product Management, Strategy, Marketing, Project Management, Commercial and/or Operations roles

  • 3+ years leading cross-functional teams, demonstrating strong financial and business acumen

  • Experience with strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting and analysis of business situations, competitive profiles and pricing analysis

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and positively influence leadership and all levels of the organization

  • Strategic Growth Analysis thought leader ... strategic thinker balanced with operational and practical implantation skills

  • Results-oriented, high energy, self-starter with high level of personal initiative and an attitude of continuous improvement

  • Ability to travel 10%,

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or advanced degree

  • Experience in analytical sciences

  • Experience successfully leading business strategy or corporate development projects
