Job Description Summary:

The Principal Product Manager is responsible for defining and leading strategic business, technical, and process initiatives for Rocket Software’s Z Systems product portfolio in support of our customer needs and business objectives. Z Systems products consists of traditional mainframe and distributed enterprise data center infrastructure products - familiarity with the IBM mainframe market or an interest in this market space is essential. This role will collaborate with stakeholders across a variety of functions such as Marketing and IT to understand key business and customer objectives, understand technology solutions and dependencies, define best-in-class user experiences, and analyze data to inform product roadmaps. Develops action plans and strategic direction for functional areas and maintains alignment with product managers to ensure the successful development of the assigned product portfolio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Conduct extensive primary and secondary market, company, and product research and analysis

  • Work with the portfolio team, customers, partners, and field resources to analyze market trends, use cases, and requirements as input into assigned strategic initiatives

  • Work with stakeholders to define and enhance product packaging, pricing, licensing, and naming that’s competitive and aligned to go-to-market strategies and preferred buying motions

  • Work with the portfolio team on strategic initiatives including adoption of new delivery models, emerging technologies, and build / buy / partner analysis

  • Work with the office of the VP of Product Management to ensure effective understanding and application of standards and processes across portfolios

  • Drive cross-functional initiatives across multiple departments to ensure effective communication and knowledge transfer, on-time delivery, and sales / operational readiness

  • Engage regularly with internal and external stakeholders (including executive management) to provide timely and accurate updates, recommendations, and decisions on strategic initiatives

  • Contribute to and support go-to-market positioning, messaging, content, and field enablement for assigned initiatives working closely with Product Marketing and Corporate Learning teams

  • Define and communicate the product vision in support of the consumer strategy, including maintaining a clear product roadmap aligned to delighting customers and driving aggressive growth (both from a customer and revenue perspective) in the short- and long-term.

  • Advanced Strategic Thinking – able to independently design/identify the ideal approach to answering business questions by pulling from available internal/external resources; anticipates the next question(s) from intended audience.

  • Provide expertise on the competitive landscape, driving processes to identify current and potential competitors, research competitive products, and maintain competitive information.

  • Represent the customer: Build strong customer relationships, develop deep insights on evolving customer requirements, be the champion and voice of the customer, bring the customer's voice into the product development process.

  • Be an expert on the domain, the market, and the trends.

  • Evangelize our vision constantly so all stakeholders are aligned, have context, and understand where we are going.

  • Manage the roadmap: make prioritization decisions to adjust based on engineering tradeoffs and customer feedback, own development of business cases to support proposed investment priorities.

  • Partner with Business Development to identify key partnerships to help drive awareness and differentiating offerings in the marketplace.

  • Establish influence with cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, designers, and analysts while playing a key role in organizing and communicating their work across the organization.

  • Work with third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8+ years of product management that is directly related work experience.

  • Global Product Management, Product Strategy, Product Marketing, or relevant role experience

  • Familiar with product management practices (e.g., Pragmatic Marketing) and Agile development

  • Ability to systematically break down complex topics and quickly assimilate new information

  • Experience with enterprise applications spanning on-prem, on-cloud, hosted, and SaaS

  • Experience with multiple enterprise software packaging, pricing, and licensing models

  • Experience driving enterprise software products across partner ecosystems and channels

  • Understand how to build complex market landscapes (friend and foe) and evaluate potential technology and go-to-market partners for fit against our Systems strategy and product goals including diverse business models

  • Cross-functional collaboration and project management - able to collaborate with various functional partners to source data, define business objectives, probe/ask questions, drive alignment. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to tackle complex problems with multiple stakeholder perspectives and data that must be solicited and understood to ensure the best possible decision

  • Strong strategic and analytical skills balanced with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach

  • Ability to synthesize complex data and build / communicate effective and cohesive proposals

  • Ability to quickly understand new technologies and effectively communicate business value

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to multi-task and adapt quickly to changing market needs

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (management, analysts, customers, prospects)

  • Ability to work effectively as an individual, within a team and cross-functionally (influence)

  • Ability to form plans and deliver results on-time and on-budget according to a set schedule

  • Ability to successfully influence / sell ideas and present alternatives to diverse stakeholders
