Verizon Senior Manager Device Technology - SIM in Waltham, Massachusetts

What you’ll be doing...

The Senior Manager of Device Technology drives the technology roadmaps for Device HW, SW and SIM and executes on strategic initiatives in new product and forward looking technology areas. Identifies key technology trends across the industry and develops new concepts to drive the device technology roadmap. Responsible for a capital and expense budget for technology trials and strategic programs, the Sr. Manager must deliver results on time and under budget. The ideal candidate is adept at communicating with individuals and groups at all levels of the business in an effective manner, and has experience in preparing and presenting executive decks to senior leadership.

  • Will lead a team of subject matter experts with expertise in various technical areas such as 5G, LTE, IMS, UICC, SE, NFC, IoT, OTA, to drive the device technology roadmap.

  • Develop the device technology strategy and roadmap for Device HW, SW and device based services by evaluating new technologies, performing cost/benefit analysis, and performing trials.

  • Develop technical specifications and requirements for each area, key performance indicator metrics, logging mechanisms & test plans to verify compliance to requirements.

  • Update documents regularly as new technologies and product types are introduced. Ensure that approaches and algorithms are developed, feedback is solicited for new requirements from partners, and requirements & test plans are released on time.

  • Manage the growth in requirements and test plans in an efficient way by ensuring development and test costs continue to trend lower for established technologies and requirements. Track the proliferation and adoption of new technology in devices, and optimize and improve products based on post-launch metrics such as activation time and activation failures.

  • Lead the planning and execution of product or technology trials to evaluate potential benefits, develop a strategy, and drive adoption into Verizon’s roadmap as appropriate. To this end, the Senior Manager will use their leadership skills to influence individuals/processes/operations, and drive discussion/participation/consensus among cross functional teams including core services, network planning, marketing, sourcing, finance and legal. Success depends on enabling collaborative work among teams with different priorities.

  • Accelerate commercial rollout of new technologies and strategic business initiatives by establishing and leading industry groups/forums. This activity will involve working with multiple technology and strategy teams internally, as well as with partners and vendors that are stakeholders in technology development/design/architecture/rollout, to build and deploy the solutions that meet the desired business needs and timelines. Will influence external partners to commit to making investments, and build products in support of these initiatives.

  • Will lead a team, and is responsible for coaching, mentoring and performance management, and completes all performance agreement/evaluation/ management actions on time. Develops team members by providing opportunities for growth and exposure to leaders. Works with team members on performance management and career planning. Identifies opportunities for team members to succeed in achieving their personal goals within the framework of the business. If needed, works with weak performers to identify steps to improve performance and deliver measurable results.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree in EE/CS or an MBA.

  • Experience successfully leading technical deployment of new wireless products and services.

  • Technical Product development experience.

  • Financial analysis and budgeting experience.

  • Strong project management skills to execute on roadmap, driving a project from inception to completion.

  • Ability to work on a team and independently on multiple high priority projects.

  • Ten or more years of telecommunications experience in mobile embedded systems and products.

  • Excellent knowledge of 5G, LTE, IMS, VoLTE, SIM Toolkit, SIM OTA, and JavaCard.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant 3GPP, ETSI, Global Platform and GSMA standards.

  • Strong knowledge of Secure Element architecture and SIMalliance Open API.

  • Excellent communication and advanced presentation skills including demonstrated experience with executive level customer presentations.

  • Strong design skills and problem solving capabilities.

  • Ability to facilitate collaborative resolution of differences with a “win-win” approach.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, plus proven relationship building abilities.

  • Experience in the wireless industry, with a background in R&D / technical roles, focused on mobile devices and components and technology in such devices.

  • Experience in technology development, product development, product commercialization and launch activity.

  • Ability to lead cross functional teams without direct authority to obtain results.

  • Work experience or relevant subject matter expertise across multiple technology areas.

  • Knowledge of mobile device system architecture.

  • Experience working with chipset manufacturers, technology companies or device OEMs.

  • Product management experience.

  • Willingness to travel.
