National Grid Principal Product Manager, Gas Growth in Waltham, Massachusetts
_About the Position:_
The Gas Growth Principal Product Manager will be responsible for driving the product growth strategy behind the expansion of National Grid’s natural gas distribution infrastructure in New England. This will include driving go-to-market strategies behind identifying and converting currently non-gas residential and commercial and industrial customers to natural gas, identifying and developing product bundles and offerings that effectively meet customer needs while aligning with broader National Grid corporate and regulatory strategies, and working closely with National Grid’s sales organization in order to proactively identify and mitigate barriers to customer adoption. In contributing to team delivery of energy management solutions for customers, the Principal will focus on efforts to optimize product offerings in support of achieving corporate and regulatory imperatives while contributing to projected growth towards the Company’s $100 million incremental annual operating profit goal.
_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_
Develops an understanding of customer needs and priorities, including differences that may exist among segments of customers. Applies critical thinking through insight gained via internal/external research, analysis, and best practices to creatively design solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations with respect to adoption of natural gas service.
Uses data-driven approaches and analysis to identify and exploit opportunities for profitable expansion of National Grid’s existing natural gas distribution business, including market segmentation by geography, customer type, and other factors
Actively positions future integrated services linked to natural gas adoption and other programs and services related to National Grid’s achievement ofgreenhouse gas mitigation goals and mandate to support customers in managing the scale and volatility of their overall energy spend.
Partners with internal teams and external partners on a regular basis to design and evolve the portfolio of informational tools designed to educate and support customers expressing a desire to transition from delivered fuels and/or pursue combined heat and power (CHP) applications. With an understanding of each team’s expertise and requirements, achieves alignment on planning, development, and implementation as it relates to natural gas adoption strategies. Makes informed, authoritative recommendations regarding the prioritization of, investment in and delivery of natural gas expansion strategies and efforts. Seeks ways to improve internal processes and foster cross-functional collaboration while championing continuous improvement of customer natural gas adoption and expansion offerings.
Coordinates effectively with resource planning and other internal stakeholders to ensure that Company’s gas growth commercial efforts are well aligned with organizational priorities and ability to deliver.
Develops and manages to multi-year strategic plans for natural gas growth, taking into account infrastructure constraints, capital expenditure plans and company revenue and profitability targets.
Develops and maintain relationships with regulators and other key stakeholders involved in the regulatory process, and acts as an effective representative on behalf of National Grid. Attend regulatory meetings as necessary.
Gains approval from regulators on proposed plans and achievements through successful management of the regulatory process, including balancing demands across a diverse set of external stakeholders and interests. Develops and communicates Company gas growth strategy in the context of strategic electrification and 80x50 goals.
Supports the optimization of commercial product and service development to support regulatory requirements, meet compliance obligations, and achieve corporate revenue and profit growth targets.
*Knowledge & Experience Required:*
Bachelor's degree in a business, social science, or engineering related area and 7 years of related experience. MBA is preferred.
Management, strategy or economic consulting work experience, with a particular focus on market sizing, profitability analysis, or product development / launch and go-to-market strategy development
Experience with leadership of product development and/or launch efforts
Experience understanding and articulating customer needs, gaps in current marketplace offerings, and translate these needs and gaps into compelling product offers and bundles
Development and implementation of go-to-market strategies, including informing the design of and utilization of customer propensity models, lead scoring models, and sales funnel development
Proficiency in financial planning and analysis, including sales forecasting and tracking tools
Knowledge of the electric and gas industry, including regulatory experience, including managing regulatory processes or contributing to regulatory filings
Experience delivering executive-level communications in written and verbal formats.
Proficiency in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
