About the Graduate Development Program



National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry.Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 8-week Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US.

Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position. Additionally, all Graduates will develop leadership skills through quarterly development session and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid. You will meet amazing individuals, both within our organization and local communities and will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and insight to help you start and progress in your career.

About the Position:



National Grid’s Customer Innovation & Development Department is responsible for the total customer experience and brand strategy. This Department champions project pilots, proofs of concept, product innovations, product development, and ‘customer evangelism’ with the goal of transforming the way we communicate with our customers to deliver exceptional products and services during the moments that matter. The mission of the Customer Innovation & Development Department ensures we speak with ‘one voice to the customer’ by collecting, translating, and communicating customer insights across our US businesses.

The program manager in the Customer Innovation team is responsible for designing innovative solutions for residential and commercial customers to transform the way we deliver value to our customers. The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working in the abstract and also creating tangible deliverables based on customer insights. The selected candidate will help envision a variety of personalized customer needs and test potential solutions for feasibility and customer value. The selected candidate will work closely with customers, product managers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to define, design, prototype, and pilot new products or services in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution- Engineering, Project Management degrees preferred

  • Graduated between May 2018 and May 2019

  • Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 3, 2019

  • Valid driver’s license with safe driving history

  • Proven leadership experience in at least/one/of the following:

o College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics).

o Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment

o Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience

  • Analyze the needs of customers and business partners to develop strategies and actions plans which support operational delivery and achievement of annual goals or revenue targets

  • Promote procedural best practice in order to ensure all working practices are compliant with the Company’s policies and regulatory requirements

  • Work with cross-functional team to translate objectives and technical requirements for, then develop products and services with defined business cases

  • Excellent presentation and listening skills; ability to articulate the value of design in a business context to peers, managers, and executives

  • Leverage customer insights to pinpoint customer needs and develop viable and beneficial solutions for our customers
