Location/Division Specific Information

This position is within the Digital Science business, part of Instrument and Enterprise Services (IES) Division and the Analytical Instruments Group at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

How will you make a difference?

You will enable the development and management of new and existing software products across product life cycle. You will be responsible for understanding customer needs, analyzing market conditions (working with the Marketing Team), defining features or functions, and ultimately delivering product(s) to suit these needs. Additionally, you will be responsible for delivering revenue, profitability and growth of the business. This role spans different strategic to tactical and will serve as an interdisciplinary role between engineering and commercially oriented teams, and will be responsible for planning, forecasting and marketing of a product(s) (in conjunction with marketing and commercial organization) at all stages of the lifecycle.

What will you do?

  • Product Revenue

  • Prepares business case and financial models and manages the P&L for the respective product(s) or product range(s).

  • Effectively analyzes, evaluates metrics and makes recommendations based on findings and may implement related initiatives.

  • Completes win/loss analysis to understand why prospective customers did or did not purchase the product and develops strategies to address customer concerns.

  • Portfolio Roadmap and Planning

  • Integrates products into end markets.

  • Builds and maintains product roadmap and strategy.

  • Proposes solutions for gaps in the portfolio.

  • Collaborates and plans to achieve growth and financial objectives.

  • Product Life Cycle Management

  • New Product Development and Introduction

  • Understands the global market and competitive dynamics and regional specific variations.

  • Performs competitive analyses as assigned; assesses strengths and weaknesses of competing for products from customer perspectives.

  • Conducts market Voice of the Customer and competitive research and performs financial analyses.

  • Knowledge of competitor products, tactics, and activities.

  • Creates product roadmap, establishes a business plan and identifies market requirements for software including user requirements document.

  • Collaborates with Project Managers on the creation of the project plan for all deliverables.

  • Communicates with all stakeholders for well prepared for new product releases and to launch products externally.

  • Launches products that meet customer requirements, perform at a high level and are successful in the market.

  • Product Validation

  • Understands market conditions and translates them into product requirements or specifications.

  • Outlines critical testing, product specifications and performance requirements.

  • Strategic Pricing

  • Support for Product and Training

  • Contributes to product support strategy, ensuring the positive customer experiences.

  • Responsible for executing on or tasks related to product support and training.

  • Contributes to plans to support customer loyalty and future sales.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific or business field required

  • Master's and/or MBA degree in scientific/business field preferred

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in marketing, service, application development/R&D or sales with software products preferred

  • Experience with Scientific Data Management software including Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) preferred

  • Experience with and understanding of laboratory processes, methods and workflows preferred

  • Familiarity with Agile Software Development and regulated processes preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability in working well with cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Experience of successfully driving product launches and/or product line performance desired

  • Knowledgeable about commercialization processes

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Knowledgeable about software pricing

  • Domestic and international travel 15-20% of the time
