GROUP/DIVISION SUMMARY

The Capital Portfolio Director is part of our BioProduction business. BioProduction supports developers and manufacturers of biological-based therapeutics and vaccines with a portfolio of premium solutions and services focused on upstream cell culture, downstream purification, analytics for detection and quantitation of process/product impurities, and a suite of single-use solutions spanning the biologics workflow. BioProduction is also at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Capital Portfolio Director - Bioprocess Group (BPG) is responsible for enabling successful planning through delivery of capital capacity expansion programs to ensure supply availability that enables our customers to support scale up of critical biologics, therapeutics and vaccines. The capital portfolio management team is focused on ensuring construction projects are resourced for success, building operating mechanisms and cross functional alignment. In this role, you will oversee a portfolio of capital programs for multiple business units at different locations. Additionally, you will establish and continue to evolve a center of excellence for BPG capital program management to resource, analyze and monitor programs as well as provide strategic direction that enables successful execution consistent with the group & company expectations. You will lead a team of program and or project managers focusing on building and acquiring talent along with developing standards and processes for successful capital program execution in a rapidly growing business. You'll work closely with BPG and operations leadership along with functional business partners and other stakeholders to ensure programs deliver their goals and risks are identified early with risk mitigation plans established.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly responsible for capital portfolio management and optimization

  • Oversees the Program and Project Management Organization

  • Convener of cross-business portfolio planning to meet strategic demands

  • Ensures project evaluation & compliance with standardized & robust stage gate process

  • Ensures that projects in the portfolio are delivered against quality, budget and schedule

  • Sets the approaches and toolkit to be used for portfolio management

  • Manages performance management infrastructure & reporting for portfolio

  • Drives adoption of capital best practices to meet objectives at BPG

  • Develops strategy for setting standards, establishing best-practices, benchmarking project performance, selecting & implementing tools and systems

  • Develop strategy for capital project resourcing, training, development and retention

  • Defines objectives and measures of performance for CoE working teams

  • Provides guidance and oversight to the CoE team

  • Chair of the capital council facilitates communication flow and decision making with Capital Council

  • Defines control plans & operating rhythm for CoE working team structure

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a scientific discipline or engineering, Masters or PhD a plus

  • 10+ years of Bioprocess or life science industry with demonstrated experience in large construction project management leadership

  • Experience in site operations and/or technology combined with business savvy

  • Experience leading through influence management and in delivering Transformation in Capital Productivity

  • Strong knowledge of project management tools. PMP certification preferred.

  • Solutions-oriented with forward-focused thinking; anticipate challenges and develop strategic solutions

  • Experience & demonstrated executive-level reporting and presentations

  • A strong, experienced leader, willing to make tough calls, passionate for creating value, well connected, and respected across the organization

  • Able to lead problem-solving and generate consensus among divergent views

  • Able to mentor team

  • Proven ability to lead multi-site programs or projects cross-functionally and internationally

  • Excellent organizational, planning, process development, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
