Payroll Clerk
Job Description
The Payroll Clerk is responsible for the preparation and processing of the hourly payroll for field operations and the distribution of payroll checks on a weekly basis. This role also involves preparing various reports and payments for filing with trade unions, credit unions, insurance companies, and governmental agencies. The Payroll Clerk will handle payroll for 165 to 300 employees depending on the time of year, using HH2 Cloud Based Software. The position ensures everything in the system is accurate and involves sending new hire paperwork to the appropriate person, handling termination checks, and managing unemployment forms.
Responsibilities
Accurately process required paperwork for new hires, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Maintain personnel files for field personnel.
Review and check weekly timesheets for accuracy and resolve discrepancies and questionable items with responsible parties.
Audit output data prior to check preparation to ensure accuracy.
Develop, recommend, and implement payroll processing procedures.
Interpret pertinent portions of collective bargaining agreements as they relate to the payroll function.
Prepare and file various reports with unions, insurance companies, governmental agencies, and others as required.
Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Essential Skills
Detailed knowledge of payroll processing procedures.
Ability to read, understand, and implement the requirements of various documents such as union reports, garnishments, insurance requirements, and others.
Ability to work with confidential information in a fast-paced environment, maintain accuracy and confidentiality, and meet strict deadlines.
Proficiency in the use of commonly used software programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Payroll processing experience - 3+ years.
Union payroll experience - 1 year.
Team player mindset.
Experience with new hire paperwork.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office environment for a manufacturing company. The team is smaller, making it a good fit for someone that likes to work closely in a team setting. The company has been around for a long time, offering a stable and reliable work environment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
