The Olympus Therapeutic Solutions (TSD) Strategy Director is an integral member of the TSD organization, leading major strategic initiatives (organic and inorganic) that are high impact, cross-division, and/or cross-business unit. In addition, he/she will partner with TSD’s six Business Units (GI Endotherapy, Urology, Respiratory, Surgical Devices, ENT, and Gynecology) to develop strategies in harmony with the overarching Olympus and TSD vision and strategic plan.
The Strategy Director will be accountable for strategic opportunity assessments and will collaborate across divisions in addition to working with Business Units, Program Management Office, Market Intelligence, Finance, and HEOR departments to gather the right inputs to make data informed decisions. He/she will perform analyses and provide support on a broad range of projects of strategic importance to Olympus. The Director will either lead or serve as a strategic advisor for high complexity or high impact projects.
He/she maintain responsibility for keeping current on new trends (market, competitive, healthcare economics, policies) and new technologies entering the market and best practices associated with the development use and governance of data and information. The TSD Strategy Director will support the Innovation group, Business Development, and TSD BUs to develop data-informed strategies that lead to sustainable profitable revenue and breakthrough growth
The Strategy Director will advise senior management on the formulation of strategy and implementation of strategic investment decisions along with the development of the TSD strategic plan. He/she will provide direction and support on strategy development to drive sustainable and profitable growth.
Lead high-impact strategic initiatives (i.e. Olympus minimally invasive surgery strategy).
Conduct thorough opportunity assessments of strategic areas of interest.
Analyze market data in order to develop insights, identify trends, and establish a roadmap of actions to capitalize on identified opportunities.
Prepare opportunity assessment including technology assessment, target market assessment, financial modelling and related diligence.
Develop visual representations of gathered complex data/relationships to convey key information succinctly and unambiguously.
Maintain accountability to work with the BU leaders to identify key priority areas of focus and help shape their portfolio to prioritize time allocation and activities to fill in critical gaps (this may include specific industry segments, research, customer demographics, strategic options, etc).
Mentor, train, and assist in developing strategic mindsets within TSD Strategy team, core teams on high-impact initiatives, within the Business Units and across TSD.
Build strong relationships across TSD and broader Olympus to uncover synergies, drive efficiencies and standardize best practices.
Collaborate heavily with the BU leaders, BU Strategic Marketing and Market Intelligence team to build the plans and secure the budget to develop and maintain the market models and market insights that are going to be most critical to effectively steer our decision making.
Accountable for keeping current on new trends (market, competitive, healthcare economics, policies) and new technologies entering the market in areas/regions Olympus currently is in or may consider entering.
Perform other essential duties as directed to support the Strategy team and TSD ExCom.
Bachelor's Degree in (Business, Marketing, Engineering, Finance, or other related field) and MBA or Master’s degree equivalent.
Minimum of 10 years progressive relevant experience, 7 of which are in medical device industry.
Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and drive for results.
Excellent strategic acumen with the ability to teach and lead others through analysis and decision making process; ability to distil relevant information for upper management.
Proven experience in early stage opportunity assessments; proven ability to build market models, valuations and interpret financial statements and market data.
Proven ability to turn detailed data analyses into succinct, useful strategic insight.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable and adaptable presenting to different audiences and levels of the organization.
Effective at dealing with change and ambiguity as business needs shift, demonstrating flexibility and agility.
20% domestic and international travel.
Proven experience in pipeline strategy, upstream marketing, or corporate strategy.
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and advanced presentation skills.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with proven track record in a matrix environment influencing cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
Ability to synthesize data and reports and to masterfully distill information pivoting the content and output depending on the audience.
Proven ability to analyze complex problems and develop recommended solutions.
Skilled at decisions making and balancing competing priorities for self and others.
Expert level of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
