Job Description

The Senior Global Market Intelligence Manager is the strategic partner for Olympus Medical Business Global Marketing. He/she will be a chief advisor for the assigned business segment processing information on markets and competitors and providing strategic insights to internal stakeholders in Therapeutic Solution Division (TSD) and/or Endoscopic Solution Division (ESD) in Olympus. He/she will be responsible for all MI deliverables that are part of the business requirements in TSD and ESD. He/she will be responsible for managing the market research, competitive intelligence and market assessment, market modelling and forecasting for the assigned business segment globally and regionally.

The Senior Global Market Intelligence Manager will manage a team who regionally and globally supports all phases (strategy development and portfolio management, product development, go-to-market and post sales) and will direct his/her team decisively to achieve business results. He/she will develop and maintain the team competence in data/information analysis and synthesis and in market research. For those individuals that sit outside of the region, the Senior Manager will be relying on a proxy manager to locally provide supervisory support but recruitment, direction, development and performance feedback will come from the Senior Manager primarily.

Job Duties

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the global MI team for the assigned business segment.

  • Develop and manage key department techniques, processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and performance of the segment team.

  • Contribute to the development of Olympus strategy development, product portfolio, and product development by researching the clinical space and understanding the competitive landscape and market dynamics.

  • Support go-to-market strategy including product launch and post sales activities by conducting market research, pricing and share analysis.

  • Ensure that all deliverables for the Strategic Business Planning Process are planned for and accurately executed.

  • Ensure that deliverables in all phases are executed in an effective and timely manner.

  • Develop and update global market models including forecasting in the assigned business segment.

  • This is an ongoing continuous effort and the candidate should work closely with the Strategy Team as well as the Strategic Marketing leader to identify priorities areas and regions to purchase data/reports and as needed conduct research.

  • Provide support as needed to all inorganic activities including M&A, distribution and licensing.

  • Lead, manage and conduct all phases of global qualitative and quantitative primary market research projects (from writing RFP and vendor selection, to final presentation) with the Customer Insights team ensuring the projects meet the research objectives within the timeline and budget.

  • Synthesize and provide to business partners competitive insights on pricing, positioning, financials, strategies and product functionality.

  • Build strong relationships across the greater Olympus organization to uncover synergies, drive efficiencies, and standardize best practices in Market Intelligence.

  • Plan and manage the global budget for respective business segment.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required; Masters or MBA degree strongly preferred.

  • A minimum of 7 years of market intelligence experience is required; experience in a role having global responsibility/exposure strongly desired.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in medical device industry

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in people management/development

  • Travel <25% (domestic and international)


  • Advanced computer proficiency in at least Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Good understanding of different market research techniques/methodologies with proven experience in Customer Input Tools and Conducting Voice of Customer.

  • Some knowledge of statistical analysis/financial analysis.
