Olympus America Inc. Director, Upstream Marketing - ENT in Southborough, Massachusetts

Job Duties::

As a Director of Upstream Marketing working on the OSTA ENT team, you will be empowered and inspired to do your best work. You will contribute to our mission by helping the team to execute and drive the execution of the funded and approved new product development projects, helping to define the strategy for our segment of the ENT space identifying and proposing new opportunities for investment and putting together the right regional plans to expand and grow our current portfolio. In a typical day, you will:

  • Maintain responsibility for OSTA’s entire product and service portfolios related to the specialties of ENT developing key strategies to serve all of the global markets.

  • Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and lead direct reports to deliver on key objectives consistent with annual business plan and corporate initiatives driving the execution of key deliverables within the new product development process & ensuring successful product launches across all global geographies.

  • Develop and maintain expertise as the \"product and clinical specialist\" by attending procedures, courses, workshops, tradeshows, and staying abreast of market dynamics, competitive landscape and global industry changes and advancements.

  • Through extensive external research (both primary and secondary market information) the Director of Marketing is expected to develop the strategic roadmap & portfolio strategy for the ENT products under OSTA domain with the Executive Director. This will include the development of early stage business case development and project proposals as well as setting the direction for the R&D Discovery teams to ensure resource allocation is coordinated with business growth opportunities that align with the strategy.

  • Interact with other Olympus Manufacturing Business Centers to coordinate all global product road maps ensuring strategic fit, alignment, prioritization and resource allocation.

  • Lead and train others in customer input market research activities (i.e. VOC’s, surveys, prototype evaluations, focus groups, etc.) throughout the different stages of the projects.

  • Develop & cultivate strong relationships with surgeon and clinician product champions who will influence broader market acceptance of Olympus products across Business Unit specialties.

  • Develop, implement, and support marketing advisory panels.

  • Lead and train others in the development of global commercialization plans and product launches (value proposition, clinical evidence, publications, healthcare economics, pricing analysis, marketing collateral, training materials, service, etc).

  • Serve as OSTA representative on GI Business Unit Meetings with close collaboration developing and supporting the medium and long term strategy development and product roadmap definition.

  • For early stage and/or high complexity/impact projects, act as a core team member. This includes attendance to project meetings, participation in product based risk management activities, execution of upstream marketing and business requirement deliverables.

  • Closely collaborate with downstream marketing counterparts at worldwide Olympus sales business centers to track and evaluate product performance and sales after product launch monitoring market feedback, sales patterns against forecast, complaints, supply chain targets, lagging regional registrations, etc.

  • Perform all other essential duties as assigned.

The Director, Upstream Marketing, ENT will create the vision and mission of OSTA’s ENT global businesses, develop and implement strategies and tactics focused on the successful commercial launch, penetration, and profitability of current and future products within the specialty of ENT (Rhinology, Otology and Laryngology). He/She will help lead the upstream marketing team in the identification of future business opportunities, identification of unmet customer needs, creation and commercial justification of a product road map, the development of user requirements based on Voice of Customer feedback and clinical knowledge, and the execution of global launch plans that successfully achieve revenue and profit targets. The incumbent will identify a comprehensive understanding of market needs, market trends, competitive forces, and disruptive technologies. The Director will support the Executive Director of ENT for all Global Business Unit Strategy Committees and with the develop the overall product and service strategies. Additionally, the incumbent will be an integral member of product development project meetings ensuring all products remain focused on customer needs and remain in alignment with the product road map. To be successful, he/she is expected to forge strong partnerships with Healthcare Professionals within the worldwide ENT communities, the Olympus worldwide Sales Business Centers (SBCs), Research and Development, International RA/QA, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Operations functions to establish long-term global business plans, with particular emphasis on market analysis, user requirements, product specifications, potentials for revenue, profit, and market share. These key metrics are used to decide on path for possible product commercialization as well as product lifecycle management. It is expected that the individual will independently develop a deep understanding of the market needs, market trends, competitive forces, and disruptive technologies.

Job Requirements::

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; Master’s Degree is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years total of Business Experience (R&D, Downstream, Upstream, Sales).

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in medical device Upstream Marketing.

  • Ability to travel up to 30%, both within the domestic U.S & Internationally.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfortable presenting to different audiences including experience presenting to Executive Management Teams.

  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to effectively manage a team..

  • Excellent influence, facilitation and problem solving skills.

  • Proven experience leading early stage development teams including development of business case, financial modelling, reimbursement, \"how we win\" strategy.

  • Strong analytical skills; with demonstrated financial and strategic capabilities.

  • Expertise in user requirement identification, customer input, VOC & market research.

  • Strong clinical knowledge and aptitude; comfortable in working with physicians in an operating room and clinician office environment.

  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and a drive for results.

  • Highly effective at dealing with change and ambiguity as business needs shift, responding well under pressure and demonstrating flexibility while ensuring compliance.
