Media Cause Director, Brand Strategy + Insights in Remote, Massachusetts

As of October 2022, Media Cause consists of 70+ full-time employees along with a network of talented consultants. We have offices in Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, and San Francisco, as well as a few team members who work remotely on a permanent basis. As we continue to grow, Media Cause is looking for a Director, Brand Strategy + Insights to help inform, shape, and inspire all of our client work.

This Director will work hands-on with cross-functional teams to help build meaningful human connections from the outside in. You'll help our clients understand their needs and motivations of their audience, the nuances and challenges of their issue space, the cultural context in which they exist, and the mission and realities of their organization—providing our internal and client teams the insights they need to develop a solid path forward.

Who you are:

  • You have at least 8-10 years of experience in the consumer marketing and advertising world.

  • You love brand strategy and being the voice of the audience.

  • You're energized by being part of a small but passionate team tasked with helping mission-driven organizations bring their vision to life.

  • You crave having more meaning in your career and want to put your efforts toward something that makes a difference in the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing, planning, and facilitating primary research, using several methodologies, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, diary studies, and ethnography

  • Leading rebranding initiatives, including: naming, positioning, brand architecture, personality + voice

  • Drafting brand foundation elements (mission, values, vision), messaging frameworks, and communications recommendations

  • Developing audience personas that capture behaviors, beliefs, mindsets, and cultural influences

  • Gathering, distilling and summarizing all audience, brand, and competitive insights into clear, powerful, and actionable recommendations

  • Developing creative briefs and collaborating with Creative, Client Success, Marketing, Fundraising, Advocacy, and Specialty teams to build audience-first brands

  • Keeping a pulse on culture + trends, using social listening tools, trend reports, and market landscape publications to bring these insights to client deliverables

Skills and Preferred Experience include:

  • 8-10 years experience in brand strategy/planning in a marketing, consulting, or advertising agency environment (nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required)

  • Must have a strong understanding and experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies

  • Able to own and build client relationships

  • Able to balance and manage multiple projects simultaneously—this is a MUST

  • Solid writing and storytelling skills, and an ability to think strategically and creatively

  • A love for unraveling brand, cultural, user, market, and audience insights

  • A willingness to get crafty and understand that regardless of budget (nonprofits don't always have a lot), it's our job to figure out how to do great work.
