Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Technical Director to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. This position works with world-class designers in the drafting, engineering, construction, installation, and strike of all scenic elements. This position requires a driven and passionate professional with strong communication and organizational skills, a working knowledge of scenic creation techniques, and computer drafting programs, and a working knowledge of shop tools and maintenance. Responsibilities: - Read scripts and learn all aspects of the scenic elements - Facilitate workflow through the shop by delegating appropriate jobs to shop staff - Work with the ATD, Scenic Charge, and Carpenters to problem-solve and oversee the creation and completion of all scenic elements - Research and coordinate rentals as needed - Assist in construction of scenic elements as needed - Work with ATD to engineer and draft construction drawings - Maintain a safe working environment in all production areas. - Work with ATD to create estimates of labor, materials, and rental costs during pre-production. - Coordinate with ATD to track and order supplies and equipment and complete shopping runs for the scene shop as needed - Maintenance of equipment and inventory, inclusive of building infrastructure, and suggest improvements as needed. - Organize and maintain scenic durable materials (casters, step units, etc.). - Ensure staff maintains labor records for payroll. - Create load-in schedules in conjunction with the other supervisors in the Production Department. - Report expenses for purchases and rentals. - Provide rehearsal support as needed. - Attend technical rehearsals and previews to assist Scenic Designers and take notes as needed. Skills: - Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills - Extensive and high quality drafting skills - Candidates should have solid hands-on carpentry skills including metalwork - Experience with welding - Experience with rigging - Experience working with CNC machines & software - Candidates must have the physical ability to perform the skills and responsibilities mentioned above. - Candidates must be able to complete shows on time and on budget. - Proficient with Vectorworks/AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Acrobat - Driver\'s License required This position reports to the Director of Production. It is a full-time, seasonal position. 4/22/2024 thru 8/31/2024
