City of Northampton Senior Services Media/Marketing Coord in Northampton, Massachusetts

DEFINITION Administrative, editorial, and supervisory work for the development and management of marketing of all programming for the Northampton Senior Center. This position involves administrative, editorial and work leader responsibilities in connection with all aspects of the production and distribution of the Northampton Senior Center periodic publications; marketing and development work to further the NSC's mission, promote seasonal programs, events and fundraising efforts; all other related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for the production and distribution of the Northampton Senior Center's periodic (currently monthly) publication that is distributed to over 5,000 senior citizens in Northampton and the surrounding communities. Manages and solicits all advertisements for NSC's publications and website. Creates content, prepares lay-out, design and graphics for all publications, marketing materials and internal and external communication materials/collateral. Works directly with all staff, program leaders, volunteers and multiple committees to support communications matters, development of marketing materials for the monthly newspaper, flyers, social media and other content for advertising of programs. Works with volunteers, committees and staff on writing and editing articles of interest for the senior population for the monthly publications, other printed material, social media, radio ads, and other marketing tactics. Monitors all distribution activities; maintains mailing lists and works directly with the mailing service which distributes publications. Creates branding, business cards, letterhead, posters, ads, calendars and other graphic documents, including overseeing needs for photography and interpretation of copy. Acts as liaison with the city tech department, and other departments/stakeholders, to ensure up to date communication tools are in place for departmental communication needs. Oversees A/V equipment and set up for program needs. Assists older adults with technology, either individually or in a class setting. Utilizes analytics from various platforms to inform marketing schedule, campaigns and marketing budget planning. Oversees and completes updates on the city website and other similar tools utilized by the senior center. Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Bachelor's degree with course work in journalism and/or media related courses; two years of experience in newspaper production; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILLS Knowledge, Ability and Skills -Thorough knowledge of all aspects of newspaper/media production and dissemination (Twitter, Constant Contact, etc.). Skilled in various computer applications with advanced abilities in desktop publishing and graphics software. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) Microsoft Office, and all social media platforms (Google, Constant Contact, FB). Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with the general public, city departments and other members of the community; ability to supervise volunteers and other personnel effectively; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Massachusetts Class D driver's license required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Minimal physical effort generally required for work performed in the office. Moderate to strenuous effort required in the field. May be required to lift equipment weighing (30) pounds or more. Position requires frequent standing and walking. The ability to operate a keyboard, digital camera and video camera is required. MISC. INFORMATION Night and weekend work is occasionally required. 35 Hours per week is considered full-time for this position. Full benefits.
