Dell Consultant, Product Management - VMware Solutions (US, Remote) in North Carolina

The Data Centric Workloads and Solutions team is focusing on Enterprise solutions based on all the elements of the DellEMC ISG portfolio (Server, Storage, Networking, CI/HCI, Data Protection, Software, ISV’s etc…). The team is a cross functional team with Engineering, Product Management, Business Development, Technical Marketing, and various Ops functions.

What you’ll achieve

As a Product Management Consultant, you will identify new growth areas, technologies and emerging product/service opportunities. You will conduct in-depth market analysis to optimize existing products/solutions and build next generation products, partnering closely with the Engineering and Product Management teams to build a product road map and align product strategies for the business.

The DCWS Product Management Consultant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manages requirements for new complex product and solution offerings, including feature/cost trade off decisions, trade marking important features, and driving peripheral requirements for product platforms.

  • Leads cross-functional product teams

  • Leads business case for enhancements or new products; makes recommendations and negotiates with other functional leaders

  • Leads the most complex requirements gathering and management; provides interpretation and recommendations

  • SME for external and internal product events

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Applies broad knowledge of company’s product/service capabilities and competitive environment to identify new growth areas, new technology and emerging product/service opportunities.

  • Evaluates in-depth market analysis and leads business case for optimization of existing products/solutions alternatives and/or to create the next generation of new products.

  • Oversees and drives solutions through the release process including business case and resource requirements.

  • Manages portfolio roadmap and works to scope opportunities and obtain appropriate funding for new programs.

  • Creates, implements, and monitors plans for testing solutions through beta releases or pilot programs.

  • Ensures that solution features and specifications reflect customer requirements.

  • Prioritizes features and specifications, applying budget, timeline and other constraints.

  • Works across all functional areas, gathering inputs, updating plans and roadmaps, and communicating the impact of solution decisions to all stakeholders.

  • Works extensively with Marketing to build solutions marketing plans and drive them through the organization.

  • Collaborates with other Product Managers, BU Leaders and Engineering/ R&D leaders to align strategies into comprehensive portfolios for the BU

  • Reviews solution evaluation metrics from multiple sources and ensures they are incorporated in future versions.


  • B.S. in computer engineering or computer science, or equivalent

  • 5+ years Product Management or similar experience (enterprise products preferred)

  • Working knowledge of VMware solutions

  • Knowledge of server accelerator, hardware and other Dell components

  • Experience using a lean Software Development processes such as Agile, Scrum and Kanban

  • Experience navigating large organizations and an understanding of complex stakeholder relationships

  • Self-starter; able to work effectively as a global team member; comfortable with occasional ambiguity

  • Able to breakdown complex problems into simple solutions focused on important customer needs

Desirable Requirements:

• Strong technical skills in IT, datacenter, edge computing systems, Cloud, compute, storage, networking and security

• 5 to 8 years’ experience in technical Product Management
