Karyopharm Therapeutics Inc. Vice President, Engagement Strategy in Newton, Massachusetts

We are seeking a Vice President, Engagement Strategy to lead a newly developed function within our growing organization. This individual will provide leadership across a variety of areas within our business in order to drive awareness of Karyopharm Therapeutics, our innovative science and our FDA approved drug, XPOVIO (selinexor), for our non-commercial stakeholders. This effort will include building awareness and bridging relationships across broad communities, including patients, advocates, physicians and other healthcare providers, biotech and pharmaceutical industry partners, media and other stakeholders who may intersect with Karyopharm. Campaigns and projects will include a focus on social media, advocacy groups, and other traditional and nontraditional channels to create awareness for Karyopharm, our science and selinexor to a broader community. Because of the high visibility of this function and role within the company and the breadth of activities involved, this role will report directly to Karyopharm’s Chief Business and Innovation Officer and will include frequent exposure to and interaction among the top executive team. This role will manage a team of key leaders within the organization.

  • Drive global external communications strategy and execution for selinexor and our other assets, focused on raising awareness and our mission among relevant stakeholders, improving understanding of our innovative technology and increasing positive coverage related to the company, science and programs.

  • Lead proactive engagement programs and drive cross-functional tactical execution across multiple groups within the organization to achieve strategic goals.

  • Develop strategic priorities and initiatives to help manage messaging across Karyopharm’s external digital and social media channels.

  • Create, develop and synthesize a consistent narrative and messaging plan across the organization related to how Karyopharm communicates with the oncology community including patients, advocates, physicians and other healthcare providers, biotech and pharmaceutical industry partners, media and other stakeholders.

  • Direct communication with the media community, predominantly in the US, to shape educated and balanced media coverage for Karyopharm, our science and our programs .

  • Support and align with disease awareness and patient-led campaigns (internal and external) for Karyopharm, in partnership with medical affairs.

  • Lead and direct cross functional exercises to coordinate non-commercial, pre launch activities.

  • Manage a team of employees by utilizing best in class managerial approaches and modeling leadership competencies such as effective communication, managing execution, coaching & development, and engaging/inspiring.

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Minimum of 12+ years of related professional experience required at a corporation or consultancy with expertise in communications and media relations. Prior involvement with biotechnology companies and the pharmaceutical industry is strongly preferred.

  • Strong leadership skills in managing direct reports

  • Strong program management and proactive campaign execution experience with a history of driving tactical execution across cross-functional groups, within an organization, to achieve strategic goals.

  • Forward thinking with a strong ability to influence and change how Karyopharm communicates and collaborates through optimal use of social media channels

  • Thorough understanding of pharma/biotech communications channels, including new trends and platforms.

  • Competency in strategic external engagement strategies, including local and national media relations, advocacy relations and community engagement.

  • Deep experience with issue mitigation and management of media/public facing reputational risks.

  • Ability to think quickly to prepare and align on media issues employing positioning consistent with Karyopharm’s values.

  • Proven skills as an effective collaborator who can engender credibility and confidence within and outside the company, able to effectively convey ideas verbally and in writing.
