Title: Clinical Content Medical Librarian

Overview of Position

Clinical content medical librarian (CCML) uses their knowledge of databases (namely PubMed) to create search strategies designed to identify literature relevant to the InterQual content. They review newly published research via a series of notification systems and use their familiarity with the content and knowledge of evidence-based medicine (EBM) to recommend new literature to clinical content developers (CCD). The CCML independently and collaboratively plans, implements, and executes process improvement activities that align with the goals of the department. To ensure the efficacy of all team members, the CCML provides group and individual training as needed and on a scheduled, ongoing basis. The CCML supports the clinical department with process improvement projects as needed.What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

Collaborate with CCD to create search strings and when needed, select articles based on relevancy as related to clinical content and quality of evidence. Ability to create and store deep dive searches to streamline future content development on similar topics. Create new and maintain existing alerts to ensure CCDs’ are receiving the most recent literature on content changes. Use knowledge of content and development needs to disseminate and recommend new literature as it is published (e.g., research studies, guidelines, data sets, CMS reports, FDA data, etc.) Working with CCML team members to automate using tools when possible. Independently and collaboratively plan, implement, and execute process improvement initiatives (e.g., planning and creating educational activities and resources, clean up of SharePoint) Supported by metrics to determine effectiveness of process improvements. Support clinical initiatives; Inpatient lists and special projects. Develop and lead trainings as needed or on a scheduled, ongoing basis to support the yearly EBM clinical department goals. Working with senior management as needed.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • MSLIS/ MLIS from an ALA-accredited program required.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a librarian, medical librarian preferred

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Demonstrate competence in medical literature searching

  • Experience using the principles of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) to critically evaluate medical literature

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills and ability to step through logical pathways

  • Results oriented, effective as both a team member and independent worker with attention to detail and ability to multi-task

  • Demonstrate proficiency with various software applications, including but not limited to MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, SharePoint

  • Additional education in the health or public health sciences strongly preferred

  • Experience authoring/ co-authoring and peer-reviewing journal articles strongly preferred

  • Understand medical and clinical concepts strongly preferred
