VideoLink Broadcast Design Engineer in Newton, Massachusetts


This is a great opportunity for an established broadcast facility and video systems design engineer to hone his/her skills in engineering and project management. We welcome candidates who want to work in a team atmosphere and who can think creatively while watching the bottom line. We design systems that enable us to provide state-of-the-art production services for our clients. This position will be responsible for project inception to completion, ranging from working with customers to define project requirements through working with our installers to commission systems.

The primary responsibility is to enable VideoLink production staff and our customers to create compelling video content through the design, integration, and configuration of broadcast and related IT technology. Additional responsibilities include VideoLink facility equipment configuration and maintenance. Successful candidates for this position will be detail oriented, be able to manage their own time efficiently and enjoy continuous learning. Creative and artistic application of technical solutions is highly valued. Successful candidates will thrive in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment. This position requires some travel (<20%) to support customer sites, VideoLink bureaus, and field production.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Apply a holistic approach to meeting strategic objectives through production process and system design/re-engineering of audio and video systems.

  • Work with VideoLink sales and with our customers to capture customer use-cases, integration requirements and to translate customer requirements into functional systems.

  • Capture system design and SOP details through methodical documentation.

  • Proactively addresses VideoLink facility and workflow inefficiencies.

  • Ensure that all facility trouble tickets and project tasks are completed in a timely manner.

  • Integrate/Install facility and field broadcast equipment using clean wiring practices and provide project management.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues by utilizing a solid knowledge of a mixed analog/digital, SDI/IP broadcast environment, including:

  • Camera setup and configuration

  • Audio and video levels

  • Patching and routing

  • Broadcast transmission methods

  • Broadcast intercoms

  • Signal quality control and measurement

  • Engineer live video production events:

  • Work with Production Managers, Operations and Sales prior to events to determine how best to fulfill our customer's technical requirements.

  • Configure and operate video encoding equipment and software for transmission and webcasting.

  • Work with vendors to evaluate products, for equipment/parts purchasing, and outside equipment repairs.

  • Work with Operations staff to promote best practices.

  • Other Duties as assigned by your manager.


    Must-have skills & job qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing and configuring video production equipment or in A/V systems integration.

  • Highly proficient in 2D use of AutoCAD for wire diagrams and floor plans.

  • Technical and mechanical aptitude with excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for cutting edge technology.

  • Ability to train others, and to learn from others.

  • Mature judgment to make sound decisions based on objective evidence, customer and VideoLink needs, and cost considerations.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Self-motivated, organized and resourceful with strong work ethic and attention to detail.

  • Team-oriented – ability to work well with diverse, cross-functional teams.

  • Work performance and cooperation that serves as a role model for all. Ability to maintain a positive attitude, even under stress.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs. and climb ladders and perform overhead work.

  • Ability to travel, including on short notice and/or for extended periods of time.
