International Data Group Research Manager, Infrastructure and Operations in Needham, Massachusetts
The Research Manager of Infrastructure and Operations will be a key member of IDC's world class Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team, focusing on writing of unique, insightful, and relevant research topics spanning the I&O domain. Potential topics include both qualitative and quantitative research, involving a combination of in-depth and strategic perspectives. Some of these topics could include existing market share and forecast reports, and thought leadership in areas such as Cloud systems management, DevOps, event management, modern I&O practices (people, process, and technologies), automation, hybrid cloud, and the creation of new coverage areas for IT best practices in I&O disciplines.
This is a role that requires flexibility, collaboration, teamwork, and an intense desire to learn something new every day constantly extending and developing subject matter expertise. This role requires some coordination of research being conducted and delivered in other regions as well as strong ethics, a team-driven attitude, and flexibility to work with teammates and across internal groups.
The role also requires an in-depth understanding of three customer audiences including: Vendor teams (Executive suite, product management, product marketing, strategy), IT executives and their teams (I&O executives, SREs, cloud architects, infrastructure platform engineers, IT Directors, etc.) and the financial community, applying the candidate's knowledge to helping solve the business challenges each audience requires. The position demands telling the "story" of what it means to each client, providing in-depth analysis and actionable advice.

Writing of unique, insightful and relevant research topics spanning the I&O domain.
Help grow the I&O program through thought leadership, world class research execution and innovation, business development, inquiry support, and general business execution both independently and through sales relationships.
Take on consulting projects and client inquiry when appropriate.
Assure that the research, inquiry, and market influence requirements of the programs are met.
Support client inquiry related to research reports and topics pertinent to research across vendors, IT executives, and investment clients.
Coordinate and create the North American research agenda.
Contribute written research and thought leadership to consulting projects.
Provide business development and the identification of consulting projects, as well as execution of consulting projects. These projects range from webcasts, content marketing, and strategy sessions.
Bachelor's Degree required, higher degree preferred
At least 5+ years working within a vendor, IT organization, and/or leading research or consulting firm
Have a humble, hungry, and collaborative attitude with an advanced ability to focus on execution in a fast-paced environment
Experience in understanding the research needs of multiple types of clients
Ability to quickly synthesize data from various sources including interviews, surveys, secondary research and other IDC research
Strong business development skills and ability to communicate to clients what they need to drive their business growth objectives and your role in enabling that growth
Excellent speaking and communication skills
Excellent writing and analytical skills-timely/monthly execution of short 2 page releases up to 15 page documents
Must have a passion for learning, and being comfortable in a highly matrixed organization
Highly proficient with the use of MS Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to travel up to 20% domestically
Ability to commute to our Needham MA office headquarters or we will consider an approved remote location for a well qualified candidate
