International Data Group Research Director, Technology Skills Research in Needham, Massachusetts

IDC is seeking a Research Director, Technology Skills in our Future of Work market research and advisory practice. Developing and retaining technology and digital skills is a crucial issue for organizations today as the lack of these skills is becoming one of the major challenges in their digital business transformation journeys. The Research Director will focus on best practices, trends, market conditions, business concerns, and vendor offerings to provide authoritative advice for IDC clients.

  • Planning and execution of a compelling research agenda that offers both quantitative and qualitative components

  • Subject matter expert both within and external to IDC who will be tapped for custom engagements in addition to contributing to a published research agenda

  • Actively work with colleagues and sales to develop new opportunities

  • Deliver presentations at client events, conferences and in smaller meetings

  • Actively participate in IDC's Future of Work community

  • Travel for industry events and customer projects as needed. Given pandemic conditions, travel commitments are currently limited and will change over time

  • Bachelor's Degree is required; Equivalent years of relevant industry experience may be considered and evaluated for a candidate with strong qualifications

  • 10+ years of pertinent technology industry experience as an industry analyst, product manager, journalist, or other related roles such as training and development

  • Strong data fluency, including survey development, data analysis and presentation

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel is a must(pivot tables, V-Lookups etc.)

  • Experience authoring and interpreting buyer perception surveys for actionable insights

  • Excellent public speaking and good interpersonal communications skills

  • Demonstrable track record and passion for superior client service as direct client interaction will be a critical component of the role

  • Proven record of multi-tasking, with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines

  • This role may require occasional domestic or international travel to client sites once business travel resumes more fully

  • Location is IDC's Needham, MA headquarters, or an approved US remote location
