International Data Group Director, Variable Compensation in Needham, Massachusetts

As the Director of Variable Compensation, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing the organization's variable compensation programs. Your strategic leadership will ensure that the company's compensation plans effectively align with business goals, drive performance, and attract, motivate, and retain top talent. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, analyze market trends, and apply your expertise to create competitive and innovative variable compensation structures.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive variable compensation strategy in alignment with the organization's overall business strategy and objectives.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership, sales, marketing, HR, and finance teams to ensure a cohesive approach to design, enhance, and implement variable compensation plans for various departments and roles.

  • Oversee the rollout and communication of variable compensation plans to employees, ensuring clear understanding of plan mechanics, performance metrics, and potential earnings.

  • Monitor and track the performance, evaluate attainment expectations, and develop budget and long-range forecast projections for all variable compensation programs.

  • Analyze data related to sales, performance metrics, and other relevant indicators to evaluate the impact of variable compensation plans on business results.

  • Provide leadership and oversight across each geography and business on the review and development of incentive programs.

  • Conduct in-depth market research to benchmark the organization's compensation plans against industry competitors and emerging trends.

  • Develop variable compensation reporting and analytics, including compensation metrics, status reports, dashboards, and financial modelling.

  • Maintain documentation of variable compensation plans and attainment calculations

  • Oversee governance processes for variable compensation and effectively communicates project plans and progress with key stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics or, or a related field. Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CCP, CBP) is a plus.

  • Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in compensation, including significant experience in designing and managing variable compensation programs.

  • Experience with global compensation programs is preferred

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, perform market research, and make informed decisions.

  • Strong understanding of compensation regulations, market trends, and best practices.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to align compensation strategies with broader business objectives.

  • Proficiency in compensation management software and tools.

  • Superb attention to detail, strong planning and organization skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • This role is located in our Needham MA office, with a hybrid work schedule. We will consider qualified candidates for approved US remote locations.

Salary range and additional compensation, including discretionary bonuses and incentive pay, are determined by a rigorous review process. This process considers the experience, education, certifications, and skills required for the specific role, equity with similarly situated employees, as well as employer-verified US region-specific market data provided by an independent 3rd party partner. The expected total annual compensation, depending on location and experience, is between $173,000 and $214,000 and is inclusive of base salary and variable compensation (if applicable).
