Waters Business Development Executive -- Contract Organizations in Milford, Massachusetts

Waters is seeking a dynamic contributor to fill the role of Business Development Executive, Pharmaceutical Contract Organizations. Reporting to the Senior Director of Contract Laboratory Business Operations for the Americas, the Business Development Executive (BDE) is responsible for the growth of our pharmaceutical Contract Organizations (CO) business within the Americas. This BDE role will be customer-facing, working with a cross-functional team to add value and innovation to the pharmaceutical segment of Contract Development and Contract Manufacturing providers in the Americas through our enabling technologies. The BDE will meet with CO company executives and the Sales, Marketing and Business Development leaders at these accounts to assist in defining solutions for increasing capacity, adding new capabilities, leveraging emerging trends and increasing the competitive offerings and profitability of these contract organizations.

With the high growth of this market segment and the new modalities such as biologics and cell and gene therapy, this individual will drive revenue growth and market share in creating business solutions and valuable partnerships with these Contract Organizations. This position can be located anywhere in the US, as account coverage will be throughout the Americas.

  • Meet or exceed targets for sales growth and gaining market share

  • Utilize our customer relationship management database to enter and manage opportunities and the multi-site account hierarchies.

  • Develop a Business Plan for the sales territory and work with the sales and marketing teams to develop a strategy for account development. The business plan will be devised to meet both short- and long- term business objectives

  • Position Waters as a strategic partner and translate Waters' technical and business benefits to these contract organizations to enable their continued growth

  • Working with the field sales team, utilize marketing and sales enablement resources to convey value added solutions, including Return on Investment and Total Cost of Ownership analyses.

  • Coordinating business development activities and leverage key influencers and opportunities across multi-site contract organizations throughout the Americas.

  • Share insights and Voice of the Customer input from these Contract Organizations with our Scientific Operations and Marketing teams to align our product offerings and services

  • Map the top CO’s in the Americas to their pharmaceutical sponsors to effectively share insights and industry trends relative to their customer base

  • Design solutions with the Contract Organizations to add capacity, efficiency, or new technologies to increase their growth and market reach in this emerging and competitive market; position new technologies in emerging areas of growth

  • Work with the commercial leaders at these CO’s to create case studies and joint business development programs to promote their capabilities using Waters technologies


  • BS/Masters/PhD in a scientific discipline (e.g. chemistry, biology or biochemistry) or a science-related field of study


  • 3-5 years' experience with LC and Mass Spectrometry

  • Demonstrated success in competitive sales, especially at the executive level, and experience with cross-functional teams

  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, including emerging trends for small molecule and large molecule discovery, development, and manufacture

  • Experience creating and implementing strategic business plans

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a good listener

  • Confidence and experience at the executive level to communicate with customers at all levels

  • Ability to understand and anticipate future trends and effectively communicate them internally

  • Experience initiating and supporting scientific collaborations, with clear goals, timelines, milestones and KPI’s defined

  • Fast learner, able to quickly achieve a thorough understanding of business opportunities for Waters and adapt business models to evolving markets and regulatory landscape
