Our two campuses in Methuen and Haverhill have a total of 320 beds, and we are a full-service, acute care hospital offering comprehensive inpatient medical/surgical units, outpatient care, and 24/7 emergency services. We have three behavioral health units: cardiac telemetry, and critical care service lines. As the Holy Family Hospitals Lead Medical Technologist, you will assist the Core Lab Supervisor in day-to-day operations. Serves as department contact in the manager's absence. Follows appropriate lines of communication to effectively resolve difficult patient/family/physician/staff situations. You will be asked to respond promptly and courteously to customer (Internal & external)/patient requests. Job Responsibilities:
Ability to function in all areas of the core laboratory: chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology.
Responsible for performing high-complexity testing. Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Performs quality control procedures, instrument checks and troubleshooting problems.
Demonstrates knowledge of expected lab values for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
Notifies patient care units and/or physicians of critical lab values.
Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.
Meets current documentation standards and policies.
Interacts professionally with the Manager of the Clinical Laboratory, Pathologist, and clinical laboratory personnel.
Consults with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CAP, TJC, state, and other regulatory requirements.
Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Monitors quality control for the department through weekly reviews. Submits data monthly for peer comparisons.
Monitors instrument maintenance and signs off maintenance sheets monthly. Ensures that maintenance is performed and that records are up-to-date.
Demonstrates proficient use of the Laboratory Information System, instrument-specific software and other software in use in the laboratory
Assists with bi-annual interface/result review, semiannual auto-verification validation and functional testing associated with updates.
Provides and facilitates training, as necessary, for students, new technologists, and current technologists on new procedures. Takes initiative in identifying needs or opportunities for improvement within the department and develops recommendations.
Performs competency assessments of staff, a ssists supervisor with preparation of inspections and performance improvement activities.
Assumes a leadership role in the absence of the supervisor.
Qualifications:
BS in Medical Technology or equivalent.
Two or more years of hospital experience.
Previous supervisory experience desirable.
MT (ASCP) or equivalent required
