Director, Business Development – Cell Therapy

Position Summary

Catalent’s broad and industry-leading cell therapy expertise enables access to comprehensive solutions to get your life-saving cell therapies to the clinic faster and commercialize them more efficiently. With our advanced technologies and expertise in both autologous and allogeneic development and manufacturing, Catalent is your full-service partner for CAR-T immunotherapies and beyond.

Reporting to the VP Business Development, Cell Therapy, this position will be responsible for conducting company presentations and service visits to new and existing clients. This position will also travel throughout Eastern territory and call upon new clients to develop new customer relationships.

Location: Boston, Massachusetts

The Role

  • Achieve annual sales, revenue, and funnel targets to ensure continued growth.

  • Develop and maintain business relationships at all levels to ensure the continued growth of Catalent’s book of business.

  • Develop relationships with clients to understand key applications and generate customer driven product requirements.

  • Achieve or exceed objectives by actively selling to clients in the field. Frequent travel will be required to visit customers in person. Develop a working knowledge of current and potential activities that may affect revenues. Utilize pre-call planning for increased effectiveness.

  • Maintain contact with existing customers as well as develop new customers in order to achieve or exceed sales objectives.

  • Presents sales presentations for internal and external customers.

  • Provides quotes on prospective sales orders.

  • Participates in regional and national sales meetings.

  • Interfaces with Quality and Manufacturing to eliminate issues related to products in the field.

  • Utilize the CRM database to input and provide information that will increase effectiveness and aid sales.

  • Stay current on developments within the industry. Attends tradeshows.

  • Interface with Quality, Operations and Project Management to gain an understanding of the customer needs and requirements to determine feasibility of performing projects.

  • Work with Operations, Quality and Project Management with understanding project requirements so that an accurate and timely quotation can be prepared.

  • Negotiation of quotations, CDAs, and MSAs.

The Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences discipline; Master’s degree in a business or science function preferred

  • 8 to 10 years’ relevant experience in sales or transferrable skills

  • Previous experience with a CDMO organization preferred

  • Outstanding ability to build key customer relationships with the ability to educate and demonstrate technical value propositions in order to promote the Catalent difference and possess an outstanding drive for excellence and results

  • High aptitude to learn technical and scientific information

  • Detail oriented and strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently, within prescribed guidelines, or as a team member

  • Ability to recognize the needs of the customer and collaborate with the clinical areas to develop proposals that exceed customer expectations

  • Must be reliable, highly-motivated, well-organized, results-oriented, and customer-focused

  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills

  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, verbal)

  • Able to work in a fast-paced matrix environment

  • An established network of contacts within the Pharma Industry (preferred)

  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications

  • Familiarity with Salesforce.com preferred
