Sunovion Senior Director, Business Development- Remote based role in Marlborough, Massachusetts

Sunovion Pharmaceuticals is looking for a Senior Director of Business Development to join our team.

The Business Development department is accountable for Sunovion's external deal and alliance strategy and execution. This role encompasses a variety of BD activities to support the company's business objectives and advance Sunovion's leadership position in CNS. This includes in-licensing, partnering, out-licensing, divestments, and managing alliances and monitoring contractual obligations. In carrying out his/her responsibilities, the individual will work constructively with key stakeholders and cross functional teams to frame opportunities, ensure effective communication and efficient decision making and timely completion of win-win transactions. He/she will also tap into an existing network of contacts within the industry to develop new business opportunities to create a sustainable business model for Sunovion over the long term. This agile leader is a strong communicator with a demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders internally and externally.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinating search, evaluation, diligence, negotiation for in-licensing

  • Collaborate with and lead teams to out-license, divest, or partner assets

  • Drive partner outreach through multiple channels including small meetings and larger partnering events, prepare and present materials for high quality external interactions

  • Screen and conduct initial evaluation of new business opportunities in partnership with cross functional teams (e.g. New Product Planning, Commercial, Clinical Development, R&D)

  • Integrate input from various functional areas across the organization to create high quality clear and concise due diligence reports and presentations with BOP scenarios and crisp recommendations demonstrating value creation

  • Lead and/or support the collaborative effort of a multi-disciplinary transaction team (Legal, finance, commercial) to create term sheets, contracts and conduct negotiations proposing innovative ideas and pragmatic approaches during all aspects of the deal flow.

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required

  • BA or BS (business, legal, finance or life sciences discipline is a plus); MBA or other relevant graduate-level degree preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in business development, M&A, investment banking, equity research or life science BD consulting.

  • Expertise across Psychiatry and Neurology disease states is preferred. Knowledge of the clinical development continuum, regulatory, commercialization, medical affairs, supply chain and legal affairs related to the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience interacting with Executive Level management. Experience/familiarity with Japanese business environment preferred.

  • A critical thinker with ability to get to the right level of detail to facilitate optimal decision making by Executive Management

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Outstanding oral/written communication skills

  • Ability to collaboratively lead complex projects of diverse scope (e.g. in-license, out-license, divestitures, partnering) which require in-depth evaluation of various scientific, technical, financial, and business factors

  • Professional demeanor and effective influencing capabilities to succeed in a highly collaborative environment

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills including taking ownership to ensure timely resolution

  • Nimble and proficient in managing multiple projects

  • Able to work in an environment where priorities may rapidly change

  • Substantial set of connections in pharma industry and life sciences investment banking
