Manages and directs a staff of solution specialists and/or managers in providing specific industry or product expertise to facilitate the closing of deals within sales territory. Establishes and communicates departmental objectives and implements plans to ensure attainment of business objectives. Works closely with sales management to ensure proper utilization of resources and provides justification for additional resource requests. Oversees the Interaction with sales team to architect the solution, and develop and execute solution strategies for market. Manages teams in the sales process for establishing market visibility and deal visibility. Develops forecasts. Participates in industry/product functions, seminars and round tables to remain up to date on industry or product knowledge. May deliver presentations/solutions to high level clients and industry conference attendees. May provide training to field sales on industry/solutions.
Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations is important.

About the Job
Oracle Utilities Global Business Unit is seeking a Director of Regulatory Affairs, East to work in our Arlington, Virginia office and expand our business opportunities throughout the eastern United States and Canada. The UGBU needs a senior level business leader who can use the policy-making and regulatory processes to support UGBU sales and advance the market for demand side management solutions, SaaS software, and utility investment in technology innovation.
As the Director, Regulatory Affairs, East you will be responsible for executing the UGBU s regulatory and policy strategy throughout the region. The Regulatory Affairs team works with utilities, and engages closely with government officials, regulators, and stakeholders to remove obstacles or promote policies to advance sales. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Market Development for the UGBU, and work closely with the Regional Vice Presidents of Sales for this region. You will lead a team of talented regulatory and policy professionals, and together will cover a region, which will include the Mid-Atlantic, New England, Southeast, portions of the Midwest, and Canada.
The ideal candidate brings great business judgment to policy work. You are a relationship builder, policy advocate, and communicator with strong critical thinking and analytical skills. You are an experienced people manager who knows how to lead a team. You have worked in a similar role in the energy industry or another regulated industry.
This role will involve travel about 25% of the time and will be based in our Arlington, Virginia office.
Collaborate with the sales team and our clients to build regulatory acceptance with Public Utility Commissions for UGBU s innovative products and the energy reductions delivered by the Opower SaaS products, as well as the customer and grid benefits from an expansive suite of cloud-based software applications
Effectively manage and support your team to advance your regional goals which includes helping the sales team to meet or exceed their sales targets
Be the trusted expert in your region who can always identify what matters most to the business
Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including regulatory commissions, utility clients, state energy officials, ISO/RTOs, environmental groups, and consumer advocates.
Be a public spokesperson for Oracle UGBU | Opower in regulatory proceedings, industry associations, conferences, and other external meetings.
Work with industry and stakeholder partners to grow and/or defend the overall market for demand side management in your region.
You have a BA/BS and preferably a relevant advanced degree.
You have at least eight to ten years of work experience in a related field and industry, and at least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
You are an exceptional written and oral communicator who knows how to advocate for an idea.
You have a track record of successful advocacy outcomes that have led to clear business and policy outcomes
You have experience leading people (i.e. having direct reports) and enjoy management.
You are detail-oriented, entrepreneurial, and have strong political instincts.
You bring solutions to complex problems and can convince others to adopt your vision.
You are a strong relationship builder and connector.
You have proven analytical skills and at least a basic understanding of statistics.
Energy industry (i.e. utility) expertise and relationships are a huge plus.
You function well in a fast-paced, team-focused environment where you need to build consensus across departments.
You have a track record of being promoted and taking on additional responsibility.
You are passionate about becoming an energy efficiency and demand response evangelist, and growing the market for technology innovation in the utility industry.
