As an internal communications manager, you can expect your role to typically involve some or all of the following:
Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as newsletters, digital screens and regular email bulletins. Keep clients abreast of progress and answer their questions.
Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
Draft messages or scripts from senior leaders for presentation to employees in written or spoken form.
Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization.
Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages.
Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly.
Advise senior executives of developments throughout the organization, either face to face or through regular written communication.
Self-starter: Comfortable with taking the initiative and implementing new communications strategies and ideas across the organization.
Writing skills: Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees.
Interpersonal skills: Have strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with cross-functional teams. You also need to possess the confidence to deal with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.
Creative skills: You need the creative ability to devise communication strategies Digital skills: Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication.
Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Suite- Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Change Management: To be comfortable and flexible in a fast-paced environment. Ability to understand the strategic vision and influence change across multiple audiences and through multi-channels.
A BA in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing is preferred.
Experience in a communications team, especially internal communication with experience writing for a variety of different audiences is desired.
Plan, write and edit content for a variety of internal communications vehicles including but not limited to: email, newsletters, all-hands meetings, and digital signage.
Create a seamless flow of information from top-down and bottom-up that results in team members receiving important information from leadership and leadership understanding needs of team members.
Build and leverage employee feedback channels, monitor in real-time, and analyze data from regular surveys. Propose and apply best practices to extend reach and engagement, and improve delivery methods and frequency.
Act as a trusted resource and develop strong relationships with colleagues at all levels. Build consensus across cross-functional teams and influence decision making with senior-level audiences to achieve business objectives.
5+ years dedicated experience in internal communications
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with superb ability to translate ideas into clear, compelling messaging.
Strong ability to build cross-functional relationships and influence without authority across all levels and functions.
