MIT Lincoln Laboratory Architectural/Structural CO-OP Student in Lexington, Massachusetts
The Facility Services Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory complex in support of the research mission. It also furnishes the design, engineering, and construction needs of the Laboratory, addressing its ever-changing program requirements. The department's overarching goal is to provide prompt, quality service in a wide spectrum of responsibilities in compliance with state and federal codes, and manage many services that impact the workplace quality of life for the Laboratory's population.
The Architectural/Structural COOP will assist in coordination of long and short-term facilities engineering and planning activities working in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Responsibilities will include assisting staff for generating space renovations, field measurements and verification, preparation of contract drawings and sketches, editing specifications, assembling as-built information, updating as-builts, field investigations, site inspections and responding to requests for information.
Requirements: • Candidate must be currently enrolled in an educational program working towards a degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management or a closely related design field. • Knowledge of and experience with principles and practices of architectural design, project planning studies and programming • Skill in investigation, research, and analysis • Skill in creative problem solving • Familiarity with building codes, construction methods and practices and understanding of the design process • Versatile designer in areas of architectural, structural, civil/site design and specialty environments • Familiar with various furniture products • Skill in graphic presentation, including use of architectural design, graphic, and photographic software applications, preferably Autodesk & Google • Excellent CAD skills utilizing latest AutoCAD suite products including: AMEP 3D CAD representation, REVIT, Sketchup or other rendering packages, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, InDesign, Photoshop and other professional office based production software tools • Team friendly, organized and ability to work with other design staff • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance required
