Responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of a product strategy. Primary duties to include, but are not limited to:
Develops, implements and maintains competitive product platform.
Partners with product managers and project team to achieve superior execution of product strategy in the marketplace.
Tracks individual product performance by benefit design, market segment and geography.
Supports the development of short and long term strategic product plans in support of market, sales and profitability objectives. Identifies system needs to support short and long term product strategy.
Develops system requirements and software.
May lead effort or manage project teams in the implementation of regional and companywide initiatives including legislative changes, network/provider changes/ medical management program and policy initiatives, etc.
Industry Surveillance and Product Innovation Coordination
Conduct industry surveillance (external) to identify trends that lead to actual ops gain or potential loss (if not built/added to portfolio) or emerging exposures.
Support a “Product Innovation” process to create continued and future viability in the market
Obtain information and input and/or from appropriate stakeholders to develop and agree upon new products and services
Augment industry surveillance with early signal detection in existing book in coordination with the Commercial Market Segments
Identify opportunities to expand internal/external knowledge base to develop and educate partners on the industry trends through:
Think tank papers (Issue and Underwriting Consideration)
Account Round Tables / Mid-Year Account Reviews - Multidisciplinary
Collaborative Benchmarking Studies
Evidence Based recommendations to Underwriting
Application Development and Modification
Sourcing for New Opportunities
External/Internal Conferences, Advisory Committees, professional organizations, etc.
Strategic Planning and Management
Assist in design, development and propose a plan to implement new/modified products and services in conjunction with the rest of the Product team and other departments, plan includes:
Product Development Plan
Requirement and Epic developments
Assist in the development of the strategic plan and business case through analysis of the historical performance and provide predictions for future business opportunity
Establish the high level metrics for successful implementation and execution
Presentations for Leadership
Risk Management and Compliance
Partner with Regulatory Compliance and Legal to:
Comply with the laws and regulations
Other duties as assigned
Assists with a variety of department and company-wide projects including department research, surveys, and department presentations
Makes oneself available for any and all duties
Accepts delegated tasks readily and completes assigned duties as identified
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or related area of study. Master’s or other advanced education is a plus.
5+ years of broad experience in the health-care industry with an emphasis on product research and development
3+ years of product management experience with previous specific experience in product development. Experience with health-care and/or insurance industry is a plus
Experience developing product strategy, defining product requirements, leading teams and working cross-functionally on innovative products
Strong project management skills with attention to detail and situational fluency, ability to influence and motivate others, and perseverance to handle challenging business situations at all levels of management and cross-functionally
Proven quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills; must be comfortable performing data analysis and consulting with others to help drive data-based decisions
Experience and a demonstrated ability to identify internal/external product needs and develop innovative solutions
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
The ability to identify, research, and solve problems, take initiative, and act collaboratively with cross-functional team members and internal/external partners.
