Position Overview :
Getting items such as pens, pencils, notebooks, scissors, staplers, binders and desk accessories on the shelf in a store is not as simple as you think! Come work with us and experience the entire process from start to finish. You will work with design, marketing, finance, legal and product developers who are all involved to bring a product to life. This role allows you to work with the product management team, who work to design new products or redesign existing ones based on the latest trends. In addition you will work with the Product Development team, who is responsible for taking our latest product and getting it developed, packaged and then placed in the store or into our online assortment.
Assist Product Managers in the development and maintenance of Staples Own Brand product categories.
Work with the Product Development team to coordinate the sourcing and manufacturing of our products and ensure our high-quality standards are achieved.
Partner with our internal customers to determine the right mix of products and the right marketing of those products to increase sales and profitability.
Work with merchandising and marketing team to help drive promotional activities in store and online.
Perform in-depth industry research on products and trends in the marketplace to assist in evaluation of strategic direction of product categories.
Conduct analysis to optimize our delivery assortment online and in catalogs.
Exposure to a cross functional team within Staples Brands Group; Merchandising, Marketing, Finance.
Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a business or engineering field.
Requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Strong analytical, interpersonal skills, resourcefulness and a sense of urgency in accomplishing goals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task and work across other functions and business units
A balance of technical savvy and people skills.
The passion and drive to create the best products in the world
Highly skilled in MS Office programs including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
Staples Brands Group sources, develops, packages and markets products for business units across Staples – both in the US and globally. This group generates sales of approximately $5 billion and has over 100 employees in the US and 65 in Asia. Within this co-op position you will work with both the Product Management team as well as the Product Development Team. The Own Brand Product Management team drives overall product strategy, determines new product ideas, helps drive the development/sourcing of products, and identifies ways to more effectively market and sell existing products in stores, online, and through B2B channels. The Product Management team researches the competitive assortment, analyzes sales data, looks at customer feedback, as well as brainstorms new product concepts to create the best office supplies and technology products for consumers. The Product Development team works directly with our Asian office and factories as well as some of the world’s largest vendors to help engineer and manufacture new products. They work with products from the beginning when an idea is generated all the way until the end when products make it to store shelves and delivery channels!
