Staples Senior Product Manager in Framingham, Massachusetts


Position Summary:

The StaplesDigital Solutions (SDS) Senior Technical Product Manager is responsible for partnering with the Business to build the strategic direction for Staples Pro-Categories, including Furniture, Technology, Business Essentials and Facilities, as well as Order Management Systems (OMS) and Order Fulfillment Logic (OFL). This position represents a unique opportunity to help shape the technologies, Products, and Businesses in the Agile Release Train (ART)

The Senior Technical Product Manager will primarily be responsible for helping develop and manage the product life cycle, which includes defining the product strategy, requirements gathering, competitor analysis, feature scoping, product roll-out, reporting, optimization and continuous innovation.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Understand business drivers and strategy including long range planning and the role of OMS/OFL in fulfilling that vision

  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps and strategic plans

  • Drive execution of the defined strategy

  • Partner across ART 4 and with service owners across SDS to successfully migrate all NAD business to one OMS and reduce our reliance on legacy technology




  • Work with stakeholders to define the product vision and effectively communicate the vision to the team

  • Proactively identify and present opportunities that address challenges faced by the organization and drive a competitive advantage through analysis of industry trends and customer needs

  • Ensure each iteration delivers working software and each release is a minimally viable set of features

  • Enable clear, concise and effective reporting and communication flow across product and technical teams

  • Coach, train and mentor the team to increase effectiveness and efficiency through continuous improvement


  • Assist in the adoption and maturing of agile practices across ART 4

  • Establish strong relationships with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Agile Coaches and Business Partners

  • Coach and mentor junior Product Owners

  • Collaborate with other Product Managers to develop and foster cross-train communicationenterprise

  • Contribute to product management discipline best practices and other continuous improvements

  • Collaborate with other Product Managers to ensure product alignment across domains



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering discipline, with 10 years of information technology, product management, and/or systems integration experience

  • Proven track record of partnering with IT teams to deliver projects in a fast paced, large, complex, matrix environment

  • Strong technical background

  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate vision, goals and themes to technical and non-technical audiences at C-suite levels

  • Customer-centric orientation with proven track-record of developing and acting on customer insights

  • Demonstrated experience building effective relationships with technology, product and functional leaders to negotiate, influence and resolve the conflicting needs of stakeholders

  • Excellent leadership skills with ability to direct a team and achieve results while staying on schedule

  • Demonstrated experience with Agile Project Management tools, specifically Jira

  • Working knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)


  • Product Owner, Scrum Professional, Kanban, or SAFe certifications

  • Experience with order management systems or ERPs

  • Ability to utilize agile methods in a flexible manner, that can adapt to the specific needs of the organization, including hard deadlines and dates

  • Able to experiment with processes and tools that encourage continuous improvement
