Staples Public Relations Manager in Framingham, Massachusetts


Position Summary:

Rolling up into the Corporate Communications team, this PR Manager will manage and implement PR programs that support goals and objectives of Staples Business Advantage (SBA), which serves mid-sized to Fortune 1000 companies. Manage PR agency to ensure successful tactical implementation. Manage inbound media requests related to Staples Business Advantage.

Lead all aspects of PR for SBA including crafting creative communication campaigns, and handling media relations; securing speaking opportunities and providing tradeshow support; developing key messages and promoting executive thought leadership and assisting with crisis communications.

Work closely with SBA marketing communications team to drive brand awareness and establish SBA as a destination for everything a business needs to succeed.

Implement strategic PR programs to influence purchase decision- makers including procurement professionals, office administrators, designers, facility managers and IT personnel, for small businesses, mid-market and commercial/enterprise organizations, with an emphasis on the mid-market.

Partner with SBA marketing team to launch new products and services as well as implement initiatives that drive lead generation and improve brand awareness.

Manage the day-to-day relationship with SBA’s PR agency of record to raise awareness of SBA in both trade and business press outlets.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Staples Advantage PR

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with different functions of marketing including mid-size and commercial and enterprise segment leaders as well as category/product team

  • Develop strategy and PR plan that supports marketing goals and overall business objectives

  • Manage and implement PR initiatives for Staples Business Advantage inclusive of survey development, campaign development and speaking and awards program

  • Oversee PR tactical implementation with agency team

  • Manage inbound media requests on relevant business topics to advance PR objectives

  • Manage PR that advances Staples’ position as a world-class delivery business (i.e., Fulfillment Center network developments)

  • Day to Day contact and management of PR Agency, as well as fiscal budget

Corporate Communications

  • Support Corporate Communications function, including assisting with crisis communications


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree

  • 6 - 8 years of related work experience

  • Proven Public Relations experience with PR plan development and tactical execution in a business-to-business and/or corporate capacity

  • A strategic thinker who can effectively execute PR plans while managing short-deadline incoming media relations on a daily basis

  • Writing and producing various communications materials such as press releases, and effective messaging for external audiences; Confident and experienced with media relations with all types of media. Message development and Q&A for executives

  • Effectively manage outside Public Relations firms and collaborate with internal teams, including strong communication skills with executives.

  • A team player who performs well independently, and is able to work with all levels of the organization

  • Must be a confident, organized, adaptable, self-starter who thrives in an empowered, fast-paced environment
