Staples Manager, Staples Brand Product Sales in Framingham, Massachusetts


Position summary:

The Manager, Staples Brand Product Sales is responsible for acting as sell-side expert and customer advocate on key core and growth categories aligned with 2019 Objectives and channel priorities. In partnership with the Category Management teams, Product Development, Marketing, and Sales teams across US Stores, and Staples Business Advantage is responsible for the development, implementation and support of selling programs; creation and delivery of training tools and programs; creation and/or interpretation of reporting to identify customer and business trends and opportunities aimed at driving the sales of Staples brand products; and working with Staples product managers and frontline sales teams to support the product category initiatives and new product launches. With the guidance from the Staples Brands Product Development & Sourcing Teams, Ecommerce, Marketing and Merchandising teams, the Mgr. will help drive excitement and engagement for all brands within the Staples brand portfolio, develop, sell-in, and execute strategies, programs, for driving sales, margin and delivering a competitive differentiation for Staples while – in parallel – introducing a customer point-of-view.

Primary responsibilities:

• Work with the Staples Brands Group, Marketing, sales teams and Merchandising – help develop and implement sales & marketing programs to drive awareness and sales of Staples Brand

• This may include production and creation of marketing vehicles/ collateral, event management and materials as well as content development and program ideation

• Act as a key cross-channel liaison to ensure alignment on product and selling strategies

• Work with ecommerce team to improve product content and SEO

• Assess and determine which levers most efficiently drive demand by category by channel (OLBs, Brand Shop, Daily Deals, promotional events, incentives, etc.)

• Serve as a point of contact within Staples for key Staples Brand questions

• Partner effectively with Marketing, Merchandising, Sales, Training and other functional areas as needed to achieve corporate goals

• Operate with high degree of energy and enthusiasm - Develop and deliver Staples Brand communications with the Merchandising teams to the field, i.e. Monthly Newsletter, etc., field-based presentations

• Work with Staples training and applicable Merchandising teams to develop appropriate training materials for new products, new categories, etc.

• Manager will be expected to own and drove specific categories and develop a customer-centric POV on positioning and programs by channels – activities to accomplish this include:

o Provide specified reports to all key internal teams, summarizing for key trends and business, product trial, conversion and new business opportunities

o Creation and/or interpretation of reporting to identify business trends and opportunities aimed at driving the sales of Staples branded products

• Develop and use tools to monitor internal customer satisfaction levels related to quality, value and service levels




• Bachelors degree required

• Retail or Ecommerce merchandising experience

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in merchandising, product knowledge, training and marketing techniques

• Experience with category analytics or equivalent

• Strong influencing skills, verbal and written fluency

• Strong cross-functional management and partnering skills

• Exceptional presentation skills and proficiency with PowerPoint – both in the creation of materials and verbal delivery which will generally be with sales teams and sales leadership audiences of 50• Enthusiastic, outgoing, demonstrated passion for Staples brand products

• Ability to deal with ambiguity and manage multiple projects independently

• Travel 15% of time


• Demonstrated to own/drive program results without direct line authority

• Experience supporting a large field sales organization and partnering with remote stakeholders

• Ability to develop and articulate a strategy

• Exhibits proactive communication and ability to assess the need for immediate action and act with urgency especially as it relates to supporting the stores and/or merchandising teams

• Exhibit proactive communication; assess the need for immediate action

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of financial analysis, forecasting, and NPD data

• PC literate with the ability to develop and manipulate spreadsheets, databases and custom Staples reporting systems, including the PDB and Apollo
