Staples Manager, Category Marketing in Framingham, Massachusetts


The role of the Manager, Category Marketing is to build and execute strategic initiatives that support key business goals in partnership with Merchandising, Sales, Store Operations, L&D, Segment Marketing and the creative agency. These marketing activities influence our customers' perceptions and shopping behaviors in all channels: stores, online and C&E. The Manager role reports to the Senior Manager, and is a key position created to bring high-priority marketing initiatives to life.

Key Job Responsibilities

Impact on Business

  • Assist in the development of the category marketing plan to align with business goals

  • Lead execution on specific focus areas within marketing plan partnering internally (merchandising, sales, store ops, L&D, segment marketing, channel sales and all creative resources) to ensure integration across all customer touchpoints, and ultimately achieve success

  • Define success metrics and partner with customer analytics and customer insights to identify, synthesize and share customer insights and results cross-functionally; leverage results to impact future communications

Innovation and Change

  • Support the customer-centric product assortment strategies with modern marketing tactics that bring our products to life – both internally and externally – and supports customers on a 1-to-1 basis

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners – ensure alignment on all appropriate aspects of marketing plan execution

Marketing Execution

  • Write campaign briefs and creative briefs

  • Evaluate creative concepts to ensure adherence to strategy and brand guidelines

  • Effectively present marketing strategies and creative execution of marketing tactics to senior leaders

  • Manage external creative resources


Education/Experience Equivalent (minimum requirements)

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 6-8 years of Marketing experience developing strategic marketing plans and test/learn framework

Professional Knowledge/Experience

  • Results driving via brand building targeted Marketing programs

  • Strong financial, analytical and planning skills

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate with cross-functional partners

  • Proven experience with building and maintaining collaborative relationships cross-functionally

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with and present to all stakeholders

  • History of balancing multiple priorities simultaneously with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines
