Staples Director, Digital Pricing in Framingham, Massachusetts


Staples is a privately owned $8.5B distributor to medium and large sized customers. Staples distributes office supplies, furniture, facilities supplies, janitorial & break room products, technology products, printing services and promotional products. A distinguishing facet of Staples business is customer specific pricing. The Director of Digital Pricing leads Staples efforts to ensure we are on the cutting edge of e-commerce pricing strategy and management across our public platform and our platforms.

This role joins the Staples Business Advantage (SBA) Pricing Leadership Team & will lead a team of 24 associates. The individual is responsible for the creation, facilitation and deployment of our pricing strategy impacting our website in addition to the downstream impact to our Staples advantage customers. The group is at the center of our evolution to automate pricing and create a competitive advantage in the marketplace, while continuing to improve the value contribution to our customers. It is a cross functional role, working across pricing, sales and merchandising to ensure we are aligned to our strategic objectives.

The Director will be responsible for monitoring market trends, mitigating cost risk, developing strategies (with Sell side partners) to improve our competitive position and deliver revenue and margin expectations. This role will lead three key functions 1) pricing organization, 2) Mid-Market pricing organization, 3) our Light Non-Buyer pricing program.

This Director must be one who thrives in a fast-paced setting. This leader needs to be an analytical thinker, a strategic problem solver, and a relationship builder. Other qualifications include: a systems aptitude, strong leadership and communications skills & an ability to partner with other functional teams at Staples.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Pricing or Finance in the distribution business (or another B2B business)

  • Excellent leadership skills. Ability to direct a team that reports to others and achieve results

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to build strong relationships within the Staples organization

  • Ability to work well in a group and motivate team members

  • Team player able to work cross functionally to accomplish strategic initiatives

  • Cross functional team leadership. Ability to work across the Staples organization to lead the implementation of key projects

  • Strong analytical and financial skills

  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint capabilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Competencies:

  • Experience in pricing in an ecommerce environment

  • MBA degree preferred

  • Knowledge of

  • System and data orientation/expertise
