Position Summary

The Associate Category Manager in SBD works with the Product Content Specialist and Director to drive sales and margin for specific categories within the Staples online and catalog businesses. Responsibilities include product selection, assortment management, vendor negotiation, and promotional planning.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Develop strategies to achieve budgeted sales and margin goals for your categories

  • Identify assortment opportunities and work with manufacturers, wholesalers, and drop ship vendors, to address needs of customers

  • Develop compelling merchandising and promotional strategies to both customers and prospects

  • Work with Product managers in Retail, Contract, Quill and Canada to share best practices

  • Manage catalog and online merchandising, including pricing, margin, and inventory Identify assortment opportunities and work with manufacturers, wholesalers, and drop ship vendors, to address needs of customers

  • Manage development of Product Content Specialist to provide best in class content in catalog and online

  • Negotiate vendor contracts, promotional funding, etc.

Work with cross functional departments (e.g. marketing, customer service, etc.) to develop product and category level sales plans

Develop strategies to achieve budgeted sales and margin goals for your categories Work with the operations team and Director to set financial plans.

Drive Supply Chain improvements to achieve RONA budget

  • Utilize cost to serve as part of the category review process

  • Achieve Tri Channel sku match objectives

  • Reduce return rates by 11bp

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 4-6 years prior work experience

Essential Skills Required

  • Ability to manage product categories and assortments

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and creative problem-solving activities

  • Financial planning, forecasting

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical, quantitative and PC skills with experience using Microsoft and Access

  • Some Travel required
