General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for an important role as the Head of Investor Relations. This individual will develop, implement, and manage Sage’s investor relations strategy. The ideal candidate will create, plan, and execute a comprehensive investor relations program to effectively deliver corporate messages to key audiences in order to achieve Sage’s corporate and strategic goals. The position will also plan, coordinate, and execute investor roadshows as well as investor/analyst events at industry and scientific meetings. The Vice President, Investor Relations is expected to develop key communications strategies mainly addressing the investor community and shape cohesive communications plans as part of a cross-functional corporate communications team that includes Senior Management, Finance, and Legal.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage Sage’s investor outreach strategy and IR calendar, including coordination of roadshows, analysts’ interactions, and professional/scientific meeting interactions with Wall Street.

  • Develop key messaging and timing of communications for the investment community around key product and program milestones.

  • Communicate frequently, proactively, and reactively with institutional investors, research analysts, and investment bankers.

  • Draft earnings announcement press releases, conference call scripts, and Q&As while supporting the development of other corporate press releases.

  • Prepare investor presentations and follow-up materials.

  • Conduct peer research, targeting, and quarterly updating of target lists.

  • Strategize, pitch, and coordinate participation in investor/banking/industry conferences.

  • Maintain active investor/analyst database of interactions with the financial community.

  • Partner with numerous functions in the company, including Corporate Communications, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Program Management, and Clinical Development to enable accurate and optimal creation, evolution, and delivery of key messages and to ensure that investor communications are aligned with communications across all external audiences.

  • Maintain fact sheets and IR sections of corporate websites.

  • Support SEC filings and development of annual report.

  • Monitor industry-wide investor relations developments and provide guidance when necessary.

  • Provide accurate, consistent, and timely responses to all external inquiries from investors and analysts.

  • Approximately 30% travel (post-COVID).

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, and the ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans and recommendations. Must have a demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action, excellent analytical skills, and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree.

  • 15+ years of relevant work experience in investor relations or finance with a demonstrated understanding of the biotechnology industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public biotech company experience with commercialization strongly preferred.

  • Moderate to advanced understanding of financial statements and public company reporting requirements and mechanisms.

  • Experience and comfort with interacting with investment bankers, institutional investors, and research analysts.

  • Comfortable working with IR databases and researching/benchmarking projects.

  • Excellent attention to detail and diligence in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong written and verbal skills.

  • Desire to learn and be a part of a fast-growing company and dynamic team.

  • Demonstrates initiative.

  • Comfortable being both an individual contributor and team player.

  • Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. An ability to influence for greater outcomes.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.

  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
