Job Description

The Broadcast Engineer will manage the installation, maintenance and operation of video broadcast television equipment and facilities for the ACC Network. This position will ensure the proper operation of equipment by instructing full-time staff, game day contractors and student workers on how to handle and operate broadcast production equipment carefully and safely. He/She is responsible for solving any technical problems (primarily video) that occur with the equipment and work with the other technical specialists to diagnose, alter and fix the problem. This person will make sure that programs are broadcast on time and to the highest level of quality.

The Broadcast Engineer should be a skilled professional participating in all facets of the ACC Network productions which includes live games, coaches and player interviews and taped special interest stories. The individual will be a strategic thinker who understands the components of a successful broadcast strategy and can contribute meaningfully to an overall strategy for organizing the pieces in a way that will complement one another by developing creative ideas, building consensus for program initiatives and participating in their execution.

The Broadcast Engineer should be familiar with current trends in the industry and be up-to-date on the latest technological advances. This person needs to have problem-solving skills and must be capable of working with old and new technology.

This individual will, as assigned, act as Project Manager to work out the department’s necessary scheduling and budget requirements for specific projects. They work in all phases of the project with all of the key constituents in the process, including clients, technological specialists, consultants, and sales representatives.

This person should be able to assist with all aspects of Boston College’s ACC Network broadcasts. This includes production planning, production and collaborating with External Affairs, Athletic Communications and Interactive Media on the dissemination of content post production.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required Master’s preferred

Formal Experience/Education in Athletic Management is a plus

Certified in Crestron ControlSystems is a plus

5+years of technical experience in the broadcasting industry

3+ years of engineering linear and digital broadcasts

3+ years experience in video controlroom environment

3+ technical support.

Familiarity with the following systems:

Audio: Poweredand passive speakers,mixing consoles, wireless and wired microphones, audio recorders, signal flow

Video: HD and SD LCD projectors, video switchingsystems, projection lens to screen throw ratios, signal flow

Computers: Mac and PC literate, PowerPoint proficient, Microsoft Office proficient

Interact daily with clients on site at the event

Works closely with Producer for the event and assists with managing the crew

Works with dedicated broadcast hardware and computers including:

-Ross XPression Graphic Servers & Software

-Ross Carbonite Production video switcher

-EVS, Abekas & Zeplay replay machines

-Riedel & Clear-com Communication Systems

-Ross signal management & conversion interfaces

-Video and audio routers, and its Virtual Core management system

-Ikegami & Panasonic & Sony HD broadcast cameras

-Digital audio console

System design and integration to include video path (HD-SDI, NTSC), audio path (Analog, digital, embedded), fiber linked systems (both video and audio), digital video compression and transmission standards (DV25, DV50, Mpeg, ATSC, ASI), non-linear editing stations, PC networking, Master Control facilities and hub, and network storage systems

Coordinate equipment, trucks & human resources logistics to cover production needs

Maintain accurate records of all expenditures

Manage crew and events paperwork, including event surveys for productions

Maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of broadcast system equipment

Repair equipment to the component level and coordinate with manufacturers as required to maintain operational equipment at all times.

Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that works well with co-workers, supervisors, customers and vendors

Provide engineering support for remote operations as needed and assigned

Perform other related duties as required
