State of Massachusetts Summer Intern - Java Programmer in Chelsea, Massachusetts
Agency Overview: A&F IT is a unit under the Executive Office for Administration & Finance (A&F) and is overseen by the A&F IT Secretariat Chief Information Officer (A&F SCIO). A&F IT is comprised of more than 200 employees working on IT systems and applications for 15 various A&F agencies. A&F IT oversees and provides all the IT application support for these agencies to ensure their IT operations are running effectively and efficiently. One of the key agencies within A&F is the Department of Revenue (DOR). DOR manages Commonwealth taxes and child support, and their mission is to gain full compliance with the tax, child support and municipal finance laws of the Commonwealth. Position Summary: We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated intern to join our development team and contribute to exciting Java-based projects. As a Java Programming Intern, you will work closely with senior developers to learn and apply your knowledge of Java in a professional setting. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience, work on real-world projects, and develop your coding skills in a collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: * Assist in designing, coding, testing, and debugging Java applications. * Collaborate with the team to develop software solutions. * Write efficient, reusable, and reliable code. * Perform unit testing and troubleshoot software issues, with guidance from a supervisor. * Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving software quality. * Document code and processes as necessary. * Continuously learn new technologies and best practices. Requirements & Preferred Qualifications: * Basic knowledge of Java programming language. * Familiarity with object-oriented programming (OOP) principles. * Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns. * Familiarity with Java development tools (e.g., Eclipse, etc.) is a plus. * Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. * Good communication skills and eagerness to learn. * Knowledge of Java frameworks (e.g., Spring, Hibernate) is a plus. * Familiarity with relational databases and SQL. * Experience with web development technologies (React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus. * Knowledge of Agile methodologies is a plus. This position is assigned to A&F IT’s offices at MITC, 200 Arlington Street in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Currently, this position will require in-person and virtual presence, as assigned by the supervisor.
