Title: Visual / UX Designer

Product Area: Watson Health Medical Imaging

Location: Cambridge, MA

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced hybrid Visual/UX Designer in our Imaging market segment of IBM Watson Health to design high quality visual interfaces and user experiences for projects across Imaging for web-based (zero footprint UI) and mobile applications.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for project-specific visual, interaction, and information design, and work closely with a distributed team of User Research, Visual, UX Designers and Front-End Developers (FEDs) to create visual treatments that bring to life the project vision and creative approach. This person should bring extensive experience in new designs as well as re-designs; possess a demonstrated knowledge of visual design, user experience, interaction design, responsive design, industry trends, and a keen awareness for information architecture practices.

Responsibilities include :

  • Visualize and designs necessary to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas to the larger team (wireframes, mockups, clickable prototypes, detailed annotations, etc.) to describe the intended user experience. Finesse designs at a napkin, vector, and pixel level

  • Work closely with users and internal audiences to understand business needs

  • Create visual assets that reflect a brand, enforce our design language, and delight the user

  • Create visually engaging and innovative web and mobile products

  • Create clean and approachable data visualizations to illustrate complex analytics, trends, and data relationships

  • Design for web and mobile applications at a variety of resolutions, adapting responsive design

  • Create design patterns for standardization and contribute to our design system

  • Experienced in iconography and typography

  • Work in Agile mode, creating and iterating on designs for rapid delivery

  • Be involved throughout the design and development cycles

  • Deliver final production-ready digital assets

Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to produce quick, low fidelity sketches and sleek, high fidelity visuals on tight schedules with a ton of iterations

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize real user feedback into designs

  • Ability to work with brand and design guidelines

  • Knowledge of accessible designs

  • Applied experience in design thinking

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including techniques to persuade and negotiate

  • and the ability to articulate alternative approaches

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Interpret people’s needs, present design concepts, and effectively communicate

  • Create technical drawings for presentations and user interface specifications

  • Understand web technologies including: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.

  • Healthcare background, preferably in medical imaging

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in User Experience Design, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science or related discipline

  • A minimum of 3 years experience solving complex user problems

  • Understanding of Design principles and their application

  • Experience designing for accessibility

  • Experience working on complex products with multiple user groups

  • Examples of beginning and ending interactions (micro interactions) and/or mobile/responsive design considerations

  • Data analysis and statistical analysis experience

  • Portfolio and work samples including user-centered design skills including visualizations of complex experiences such as flows, scenarios, personas, etc. (any fidelity), sketches to mid-fidelity interactions (show your process) and clickable prototypes (any fidelity)

  • Experience in Agile, Scrum and Lean

Preferred:

  • Experience working with distributed teams

  • Experience with natural language processing or machine learning technology
