Abt Associates Vice President/Account Lead, Housing and Asset Building (HAB) in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Opportunity

The Housing and Asset Building VP/Account Lead is a strategic partner, trusted advisor and Abt representative to key clients in Abt’s growing HAB portfolio, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, state and local governments, and philanthropic partners. With a focus on positioning Abt for future growth and greater mission impact, the HAB VP/Account Lead will develop and oversee execution of the HAB account’s strategy for business development and thought leadership by leveraging Abt’s five core capabilities (research, monitoring and evaluation; technical assistance and implementation; digital transformations; data capture and surveys; and equity). As a thought leader, the VP/HAB account lead will maintain a reputation as an expert in housing and asset building and present key research findings at major conferences and other public forums. In addition, the VP/HAB account lead will serve as a senior advisor on projects in the account of significant size and scope. The VP/HAB account lead will report directly to the Division Vice President (DVP) of the Division of Social and Economic Policy.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develops and implements a growth strategy for the HAB account in partnership with Abt leadership and HAB account team

  • Develops new and cultivates existing client relationships through regular communication and thought leadership

  • Assumes responsibility for understanding broad client needs, issues, thinking and future direction and works with Abt team to prepare and position Abt solutions and offerings

  • Ensures project delivery commitments – mission, scope, schedule, deliverable quality – and client expectations are met. This may include a direct or indirect quality assurance role on projects

  • Works to meet the goals of Abt’s 2021-26 overall strategic plan, including those related to advancing equity in our work and within the Abt organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Nurturing existing client relationships and cultivating new ones through active client engagement

  • Leading and supporting intelligence gathering to develop a robust business development pipeline

  • Identifying and qualifying new business development opportunities. This may include leading new pursuits directly and/or overseeing proposal development activities

  • “Closing” opportunities with clients, including negotiations on scope, pricing, and Abt roles

  • Identifying key trends and strategic direction for the HAB market and collaborating with other account leads, Abt’s Capability and Market Centers, and departments to position Abt to pursue new opportunity areas

  • Overseeing project execution and supporting project teams to achieve high quality results that meet client needs

  • Attracting, retaining, and growing the best talent to support Abt’s growing footprint with key clients

  • Representing Abt at key conferences and industry events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience in business development and client relationship management

  • Proven track record of management and leadership, including project leadership

  • Entrepreneurial leader who will bring new, innovative ideas and relationships to the account

  • Expertise in housing and community development, asset building, and/or social science research

  • Ideal candidate will have experience working for other contract research firms on business development and project delivery for key clients in the HAB account

Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion for Abt’s mission of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people worldwide.

  • Commitment to building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive culture at Abt and incorporating an equity lens into the HAB account

  • MA/MBA (15+) years of experience OR PhD (10 - 15) years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience working with key federal clients (HUD, CFPB) and/or with philanthropy for 5+ years
