Under the direction of the Radiology Director and chief radiologist, manages the interventional area of Radiology. Implements and develops policies relative to angiography and interventional examinations. Plans for employee staffing, training, and recruitment. Works with radiology director in establishing departmental goals, objectives, and budget planning. Plans the daily order of scheduled examinations with the radiologist.
Job Description:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains various records, logs, and statistics for evaluating the activity of the special procedures area of the department.
Is responsible for forming goals and objectives for interventional procedures.
Develops and secures approval of operating budget. Monitors expenditures and ensures budget remains within the allocated funds.
Maintains sufficient inventory of supplies for area and monitors levels and use. Selects and orders supplies as appropriate.
Supervises and evaluates work performance of employees.
Meets with various vendors regarding product quality, usability, and price.
Responsible for maintaining emergency 24-hour "on-call" coverage.
Plans with radiologist, cardiologist, and radiology director long- and short-term goals relative to policies, scheduling, and procedures.
Oversees equipment safety and implementing repairs.
Maintains prescribed standards of radiographic quality of procedures.
Assists the staff radiologist during procedures as required. Performs various technical duties as needed.
Participates in the interviewing and selection process for Interventional Radiology as well as departmental supervisory staff.
Meets with other area supervisors within Radiology Department in formulating and implementing various interdepartmental policies, procedures, and goals.
Responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures in the Interventional Radiology Department.
Performs other related duties as required.
Organizational Responsibilities
Follows hospital and department policies with special attention to safety, dress, attendance and punctuality, and display of ID badge. Subscribes to hospital’s mission statement, code of ethics, and standards of conduct.
Handles all work-related information in a confidential manner, as outlined in Confidentiality Policy. Recognizes and respects each patient’s right to privacy, and understands that this is protected by statute. Understands that looking up patient information not needed for job duties is prohibited and may be grounds for immediate dismissal.
Demonstrates initiative and creativity to continuously improve services, departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other activities that affect quality.
Plans, organizes, and renders care for (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) patients within an assigned area.
Performs work responsibilities while staying in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Understands and agrees to uphold the Hospital Compliance Plan.
Adheres to Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control plan including consistent use of safety devices as designed to prevent sharp injuries.
Patient Safety
When taking a telephone order, writes the order on the Doctor’s Orders, reads the order back to the MD and document as a TORB.
When taking a verbal order, repeats the order back to the MD prior to implementing the order and documents as a VORB.
Uses only accepted abbreviations when documenting in the medical record.
Uses two unique patient identifiers prior to treatment or patient transport.
Adheres to Safe Injection Practices i.e. never reuses needles, cannulae and syringes.
Complies with Isolation Precautions including standard precautions; i.e, dons and removes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by specific patient precautions.
Consistently complies with the hospital's Hand Hygiene Policy, i.e. cleans hands before every patient contact (even if gloves are worn), before donning sterile gloves for aseptic task, after handling body fluids, after every patient contact, and after contact with patient's environment.
Participates in EHS's TB program.
Participates in hospital's annual seasonal vaccine program (vaccination or declination completed).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Graduate of approved Radiologic Technology Program.
ARRT Registration, ARRT CV Registration preferred.
Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Three years of experience as special procedure technologist.
Attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills.
Good supervisory and analytical skills; ability to resolve problems as they occur.

- Busy patient-care environment.
Normal high-risk exposure due to radiation and high-risk exposure to blood and body fluids, and use of multiple "sharps."
