Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven years' post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience

  • Familiarity with domain structures, user authentication, and digital signatures, firewall theory and configuration, in-depth knowledge of intrusion detection and internet architecture

  • Supervisory experience

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy Information Security Foundations course (or external equivalent) preferred

  • IT Security Certification preferred

Job-Specific Responsibilities:The Senior Director of Enterprise and Identity Architecture will partner with HMS and Harvard-wide IT organizations to gain an understanding of the current and future needs of the HMS community, focusing on identity governance and management, application and data integration, and enterprise architecture and engineering.

The HMS Senior Director of Enterprise and Identity Architecture is a member of the Infrastructure Leadership team, reporting to the HMS Deputy Chief Information Officer, and will oversee and direct the strategy, architecture, engineering, and delivery of HMS IT Enterprise Architecture and Identity Management services. In partnership with HMS leadership and Harvard University IT (HUIT) they will develop, and implement an Identity and Access Management strategy to meet the diverse needs of the HMS community. Create an Identity Governance and Administration program that ties together a user’s multiple identities across diverse identity providers, both Harvard and Affiliate institutions, to simplify the user authentication and authorization experience, while improving security and controls to minimize the risks of managing identities and access at HMS and across the Longwood Medical Area.

The role will work in collaboration with HMS IT groups to develop Enterprise Architecture (EA) best practices, including reference architectures and integration standards. In this role, they will be a forward thinker helping to create the vision and guide the evolution of HMS IT systems and technologies. They will be responsible for understanding the holistic view of HMS’ IT environment and its dependencies, future state planning, research and development, project solution architecture, and standards and architecture governance. This role will help ensure future state plans exist and initiatives on roadmaps are aligned back to overall HMS goals.

In addition, the Senior Director of Enterprise and Identity Architecture will oversee a team supporting Application Architecture and Integration functions. Partner with the Data Architecture and Information Systems Directors and teams on integration strategy and implementation, following best practices to develop standards and procedures for integrating a diverse suite of applications and data sources.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the Identity Governance and Administration group

  • Oversee the Application Architecture and Integration function

  • Understand, advocate, and support HMS’ goals and IT strategies

  • Develop and lead holistic IAM and IGA strategies that ensure identity governance and streamlines user authentication and authorization

  • Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles, governance structures, and compliance activities associated with EA compliance; including leading an HMS-wide Architectural Review Board, and documenting and reporting on outcomes (such as waivers or exemptions and reference architectures)

  • Participate in Harvard University-wide Identity and Architecture Communities of Practice, Governance Committees, and Steering Committees

  • Drive the evolution of the IGA and EA functions, including the coordination of an appropriately balanced pursuit of enterprise information systems, data, technical, and solution architecture viewpoints SCOPE/IMPACT:

  • This position will have high visibility, broad scope, and high impact across HMS. Architectural decisions have a strong impact on the design and implementation of platforms and applications across all HMS mission areas
