SMMA Senior Structural Engineer in Cambridge, Massachusetts
SMMA is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our talented group of designers and problem-solvers. The primary responsibility of this role will be leading the structural scope for new projects, collaborating with other architectural and engineering team members.
This engineer will play a critical role throughout projects’ full lifecycles, from concept design to final construction documents and into construction administration. The ideal candidate will have proficiency with building analysis software such as RAM Structural System or ETABS, as well as familiarity with Autodesk Revit Structure.
Our Structural Engineering team is part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary design firm that unites a dynamic mix of architects, engineers, technologists, researchers, and industry experts. Key Responsibilities:
Manage the structural scope of new projects by overseeing the structural analysis, design, and detailing of buildings consisting of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood materials
Model building structures and components using a variety of analysis software including in RAM Steel and/or ETABS
Develop structural details to be drafted either by others or directly developed Revit Structure
Coordinate and collaborate with in-house architects and MEP engineers
Perform construction administration activities including shop drawing review, answering RFIs, and creating field observation reports
Mentor and manage Structural team members
Skills and Qualifications:
Completed Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering
6-12 years of experience in structural engineering of buildings
Completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
PE/SE license preferred, or on path to obtaining
Knowledge of building design fundamentals, codes, and standards
Experience with a variety of design software and programs (Revit, RAM Structural system, ETABS, RISA, Enercalc, CSC Tedds, AutoCAD), as well as Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with internal team members
