SENIOR POLICY ASSOCIATE (POLITICAL ECONOMY AND GOVERNANCE), Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), to contribute to J-PAL’s mission of promoting evidence-informed policy. The Policy and Communications Group plays a key role in translating research by J-PAL affiliates into actionable poverty alleviation policies around the world. Staff connect the dots between economics and policy and work with organizations to inform development policy. J-PAL’s Political Economy and Governance (PEG) identifies policies/programs that improve service delivery and make governments more responsive to citizens’ needs. A particular focus is on increasing citizens’ participation in the political and policy process, reducing corruption/leakages, and building state capacity to deliver services. Will synthesize literature from economic research to produce policy publications/presentations, disseminate findings, and support efforts to promote evidence use and scale-up of effective programs; create materials for policy outreach; serve as a liaison between J-PAL Global and regional offices; and provide project support. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) that includes significant training in international education and economics, including intermediate-level economics, econometrics, and calculus; four years’ research, social policy, or data analysis experience (may be gained through internships, part-time work, research, or teaching assistantships); comfort learning computer applications, including Salesforce; detail-orientation; advanced-level writing skills; understanding of how to communicate policy lessons from technical academic research in ways that policymakers/practitioners understand; strategic thinking skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and effectively manage time. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and is passionate about international development policy and the rigorous research that informs it.
