Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience.

3-5 + years directly related experience in managing grants and contracts.

Previous experience developing budgets for grant proposals.

Strong written and oral communication, analytical thinking, resourceful problem solving skills required.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work among a team and among many faculty members.

Must have demonstrated experience with NIH policies and sponsored research regulations.

Deep expertise with Excel and experience using financial data management tools.

Attention to detail, motivated self-starter. Strong oral and written communication. Strong interpersonal skills. Dedication to continued learning.

Ability to work in both a team and individual capacity.

There will be a skills assessment as part of the interview process for this position.Additional Information: This Staff role may start as a remote position due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while the Massachusetts COVID-19 state of emergency restrictions are still in place. The current remote nature of this role is considered temporary and may change as the University continues to evaluate options. While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines, local on-campus work may be expected for some roles. Harvard Medical School does support flexible schedules, subject to individual departments’ business needs.

Department:HiTSPre-Employment Screening:Identity Schedule:35 hours/week | Monday-Friday | 9:00am to 5:00pmJob Function:Finance Job-Specific Responsibilities:Responsibility for all pre- and post-award functions for complex grants, specializing in DARPA, NIH and DOE and other similar awards. Provides primary forecasting and reconciliation for all awards. Works closely with PIs to develop grant and contract applications through careful reading of the request for applications and prior experience on similar funding mechanisms. Communicates with program officers for routine changes in funding scope and timing.

The Senior Grant Manager:

Ensures accuracy and compliance with internal and external regulations.

Reviews options for account set up and makes recommendations to ORA, in order to appropriately manage new awards in accordance with sponsor requirements.

Prepares multiple complex and varied financial reports (including ad hoc reports) that require selection, preparation, and interpretation of data using complex data query tools.

Prepares budgets.

Approves payments including vendor invoices, individual reimbursements, and other accounts payable and receivables up to $25K.

The Senior Grant Manager is directly responsible for the day to day management of large complex grants including but not limited to ARPAs, U54, industry, cross- institutional, and all involving multiple subcontracts. These grants require constant communication with NIH and DOD on programmatic issues, and the need to respond extremely quickly to NIH and DOD on budgeting and other information. The Sr. Grant Manager oversees billing of subcontracts.

Additionally, he/she is required to support pre-award for large grant submissions (center grants and program grants).
