Spero?s lead product candidate, tebipenem HBr (tebipenem pivoxil hydrobromide; formerly SPR994), is designed to be the first oral carbapenem antibiotic for use in adults to treat serious bacterial infections, including those caused by MDR Gram-negative infections. In September 2020, Spero announced positive top-line results from its Phase 3 ADAPT-PO clinical trial of tebipenem HBr in complicated urinary tract infection and acute pyelonephritis. Spero is also advancing SPR720, its oral antimicrobial agent in development for the treatment of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) pulmonary disease, a rare orphan disease. Spero?s third product candidate, SPR206, is an IV-administered agent being developed as an innovative option to treat MDR Gram-negative bacterial infections.

General Scope and Summary of Role

Spero Therapeutics is looking for with an experienced Market Access field leader to build and lead a high performing national account team capable of optimizing Tebipenem HBr access at large health plans, government accounts and target health systems/IDNs. As a key member of a commercial launch leadership team, this position will work across the organization with market access, marketing, trade and distribution, sales leadership and medical affairs colleagues to build a strong team culture and meet launch goals.

What You?ll Do

  • Achieve optimal access for Tebipenem HBr with health plan and PBM customers.

  • Establish a high performing national and regional account team. Recruit, hire, train, coach and motivate staff consistent with Spero?s core values. Create team goals and incentives to drive performance.

  • Contribute to launch payer marketing, pricing, channel, and access services decisions by proactively sharing your expertise.

  • Oversee relationships with health plan organizations and integrated delivery networks.

  • Establish relationships with large health plan customers and represent alignment, contracting and partnership opportunities that will benefit patient access to treatment.

  • Contribute to and drive a health plan value story and engagement plan.

  • Represent the health plan customer to inform commercial strategy and tactics.

  • Ensure appropriate, compliant execution of market access strategy and tactics for field team.

What You?ll Need

  • 10+ years of progressive experience within commercial and market access roles such as national accounts, field reimbursement and market access or sales leadership.

  • Experience establishing pharmacy benefit access for new drugs with large health plans and PBMs.

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree; MBA, MHA, PharmD, or advanced degree preferred

  • Proven long-term relationships with customers across the US healthcare system, PBMs, commercial / government payers, channel customers and large health systems.

  • Previous experience successfully developing and leading health plan customer initiatives that supported product launches; deep knowledge of contracting terms and opportunities across market access segments; experience gaining access for oral drugs through commercial and Medicare Part D plans.

  • Demonstrated success in a market access leadership role through drug launches. An approach that is highly accountable and the capability of seeing the value of market access broadly beyond payer engagement (e.g. trade, sales, marketing).

  • Integrity and leadership business acumen, understanding of field team needs across commercial and medical affairs. Leadership capabilities beyond direct reports, considering what is best for the organization.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and track record of career progression; building high-performing commercial teams; strong talent assessment capability and the ability to attract, retain and effectively coach a high performing team.
